Update: Youtube restored downed Note 7 GTA V video

Update: Despite Samsung's best efforts, the video of a Galaxy Note 7 modded into GTA V as a bomb, has been restored. While it was never the only one out there, Samsung seemed to have taken particular interest in taking down the original, but Youtube has now rescinded its copyright takedown notice, leaving the video back online for all to see.

Original Story: Samsung used copyright law to have a video of a GTA V mod taken down, because it featured a Galaxy Note 7 that players can use as a bomb. Clearly unhappy with the exaggerated interpretation of the Note 7's battery woes, Samsung didn't want anyone watching its phone blow up pedestrians, cops and cars in the digital world. There's not a lot that's funny about the Galaxy Note 7, which has caused property damage and injuries to a number of people when its battery randomly overheats to the point where some of the handsets have exploded. What is rather funny though is using the devices as a bomb in a modded version of GTA V. While Samsung worries about recalling 2.5 million handsets, it found the time to tackle a mod video on Youtube too.

Of course as with any time a company or person tries to delete something from the internet, it has responded and there are plenty of other videos that you can watch to see Note 7s exploding around Los Santos. The following video remained online for days following the above video's takedown. The original mod too is still available, so there's nothing stopping you from downloading it and enjoying the explosive power of Samsung's latest flagship device without risking bodily injury to yourself.

Samsung's recall of the real life phone continues this week, with the Korean company even setting up booths at airports to exchange the devices, since it is now a federal crime in the U.S. to take one of the handsets on a flight.

KitGuru Says: This is pretty silly of Samsung. This will ultimately just draw more attention to the phone and its problems, but the footage clearly isn't of real life. A game that mocks your phones explosive qualities isn't going to damage your brand any more than it already has been.

  1. Surely the videos come under fair use for parody? This is clearly a jest to Samsung about the phone. I’m disappointed they have decided to take the videos down that I believe would come under this principle but who am I to judge…. xD
