Major Helldivers 2 update arriving next week

Helldivers 2 is one of the biggest surprise success stories of 2024 so far, with the sequel to what was a niche PS3/Vita title blowing up on both Steam and PS5 upon its launch last month. In the wake of the game’s most recent patch, the team have now teased its next major update.

Making the announcement via the PlayStation Blog, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Katherine Baskin unveiled Helldivers 2’s next Warbond (aka its ‘premium’ battle pass), saying “Greetings, fearless heroes of galactic democracy! Steel yourself for the next big push against the disgraceful enemies of freedom with our new Warbond – Cutting Edge.”

Going live on the 14th of March, the upcoming Warbond will include a whole host of new items, including but not limited to:

  • The EX Series Prototype armours
    • EX-03 Prototype 3
    • EX-16 Prototype 16
    • EX-00 Prototype X
  • LAS-16 Sickle
  • SG-8P Punisher Plasma
  • ARC-12 Blitzer
  • G-23 Stun grenade
  • LAS-7 Dagger pistol

Of course, the Warbond also includes a bunch of customisation options, such as new emotes, capes and more. For the uninitiated, unlike most season passes, Helldivers 2’s Warbonds have no time limit to them, meaning you can take as long as you need to acquire all the items without the pressure of time.

Additionally, you can acquire Super credits through gameplay, meaning you can purchase the Warbond for free with enough time invested.

With the game’s most recent patch introducing planetary hazards ahead of this upcoming update, Helldivers 2 looks to be gearing up to fully embrace its live service nature. Hopefully more studios follow in Arrowhead’s footsteps.
