Back in November, we reported that a vital piece of casting for Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us had seemingly been finalised, with Kaitlyn Dever said to be taking on the role of Abby Anderson. Now, HBO has officially confirmed the casting – setting up for a highly interesting second season.
Making the announcement on Twitter, HBO confirmed the casting, saying “Kaitlyn Dever has joined the cast of the HBO Original series #TheLastofUs for Season 2.”
Speaking on the casting, the official Naughty Dog page added “We're thrilled that Kaitlyn Dever is joining @TheLastOfUsHBO Season 2 as Abby! We can't wait to see her journey unfold on TV.”
This particular casting is highly interesting as Dever was one of the most popular choices to play Ellie in a wide number of fan castings going back years now – due primarily to her resemblance to Ellie’s character model from the games.
Without going into any spoilers whatsoever, choosing to have Dever play the role of Abby could wind up being a rather genius move on a number of levels – both meta and in-universe. We will have to wait and see.
