Last week, we reported on a leak which claimed that Microsoft was prepping to host an Xbox Developer Direct some time soon – just as they did in January of 2023. Now, the showcase has been officially announced by Microsoft, taking place in just a week’s time.
Making the announcement on the Xbox Wire Blog, Joe Skrebels – Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief – said “You’re about to get an exciting look at some of the incredible games ahead with Xbox, as we present a new edition of Developer_Direct. On Thursday, January 18 at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 8pm UK, fans will get an inside look at a selection of highly anticipated games coming to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Game Pass.”
As with last year’s showcase, the console manufacturer confirmed at least some of the games which will be present at the Direct, namely:
- Indiana Jones (Developed by MachineGames)
- Avowed (Developed by Obsidian Entertainment)
- Ara: History Untold (Developed by Oxide Games)
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II (Developed by Ninja Theory)
While it is likely that Microsoft has a few surprises up their sleeves for the Direct, the console manufacturer confirmed that no Activision Blizzard games will be present, saying “Please note that while this show won’t have updates on games from Activision Blizzard, you can look forward to news from those teams later this year.”
For the uninitiated, last year’s Developer Direct saw the surprise announcement and immediate release of Hi-Fi Rush from Tango Gameworks – to a great deal of success. It will be interesting to see whether Microsoft has something similar planned for this year’s event.
