LG’s 5K display isn’t out yet but Apple is already offering discounts

Apple may no longer be in the business of creating its own displays but the company is doing a good job of collaborating with other monitor makers instead. This year, Apple announced that it would be partnering up with LG to launch a new range of UltraFine displays sporting 4K and 5K resolutions on an IPS panel. While neither monitor has launched yet, Apple already appears to be cutting the prices down.

Both of these displays have been designed with the new MacBook Pro in mind, which is a bit more expensive than in previous years, so picking up both would be quite an expensive venture. However, if you go through the Apple Store, it looks like you can get a hefty 25 percent cut off the price.

The new LG UltraFine 5K (5120×2880) monitor sits at $1,300 while the 4K (3840×2160) variant will hit the market at $700. However, with the discount, you could grab the 5K monitor for $974 instead, with the 4K monitor hitting a lower $524 price point.

Those aren't too difficult to stomach considering that both feature an IPS display with P3 wide colour gamut, a Thunderbolt 3 connection and some USB-C ports. The Thunderbolt 3 connection may limit compatibility with other systems but there are plenty of adapters out there that can change that.

KitGuru Says: It seems that these discounts are in an effort to appease early adopters of the new MacBook Pro as the deal only lasts until the 31st of December this year. Apple's cinema displays have been impressive in the past but with these monitors being ‘LG' branded, it will be interesting to see how many Apple purists buy in.
