Future Titanfall 2 maps and game modes will be free

As fun as the original Titanfall was at launch, one of the issues the game had was its fragmented player base, which was largely brought on by the inclusion of map DLC. This time around though, Respawn Entertainment will be taking a different approach, making all future maps and game modes free for Titanfall 2, removing the need to shell out for a season pass.

In an effort to win over gamers, this week, Respawn took to the official Titanfall Twitter account to post: “Remember when buying a game got you everything? Another reason Titanfall 2 is different, no season pass needed”.

That message alone does a good job of driving the point home, but an additional blog post was also put out, in which the studio elaborated further, explaining that the lack of season pass requirement means “no splitting up the community”. The first free map update will see the return of Angel City, which players will remember from the original Titanfall.

“This means once you’ve purchased Titanfall 2, your investment includes a full single player campaign, the full multiplayer maps and modes, and long-term support with no hidden costs. You can pre-order the game to play three days early, but it will never cost you extra”.

Titanfall 2 is coming out tomorrow for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Right now, we aren't sure if any paid DLC is planned for Titanfall 2 but for now at least, it seems Respawn is focussed on keeping the multiplayer alive long-term this time around.

KitGuru Says: It seems like Respawn is making some positive changes when it comes to post-launch updates for Titanfall 2. Hopefully, this means the player base will remain strong, as this is where the original game suffered- particularly on PC. Are any of you thinking about jumping in for Titanfall 2?

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. Isn’t this being published by EA? This is a nice surprise. The only reason I refuse to buy Battlefield One on Origin and I really really badly want the game is because I get so pissed off once that first DLC comes out and it becomes impossible to find a game because your the odd one out. Nice move Respawn.

  2. It seems even EA is picking up on the fact that developers/publishers that provide free support sell a lot more games. In the end though, it’s a matter of costs/gains. If DLC means fewer costumers but they spend significantly more, than DLC will be the future for major publishers.
