No Man’s Sky is getting its first update in over two months

Sean Murray and his studio, Hello Games, have been mostly radio silent ever since the launch of No Man's Sky. In fact, the only time we heard from them was when the studio's Twitter account was hacked, tweeting out ‘No Man's Sky was a mistake'. However, it looks like the developers are slowly coming out of hiding as today, Hello Games announced the Foundation Update, which will be the ‘first small step in a longer journey' and focus on base building.

The post doesn't go into great detail on what we can expect from No Man's Sky's Foundation Update outside of some minor base building features and some hints at other upcoming additions to the game. However, patch notes will be coming alongside the update's release later this week.

“Coming from five years of intense development, immediately after No Man’s Sky released the team spent six weeks updating the game with 7 patches across both platforms (the last of these was 1.09 on Sept 24th. In the nine weeks since then our small team has been hard at work on development, testing and certification for the Foundation Update. It won’t be our biggest update, but it is the start of something.”

“The discussion around No Man’s Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about. Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone.”

KitGuru Says: To some, it was starting to seem like perhaps Hello Games had given up on No Man's Sky following the barrage of negativity it received. However, fortunately for those who do want to stick with the game, it looks like the studio is still wanting to deliver on its promises post-release. It will be interesting to see what comes next.
