Sea of Thieves has quietly become one of Microsoft’s best Xbox console exclusives. Launching all the way back in 2018, the game saw a lukewarm response upon its initial release. 5 years and 10 Seasons later however, the game is better than ever. Following rumours that Microsoft is planning to bring Sea of Thieves to other consoles, the team have announced Season 11, bringing with it an overhauled quest system, beginner-friendly features and more.
Publishing a video to YouTube, the team at Rare officially announced Sea of Thieves’ 11th Season. Set to go live on the 23rd of January, the update will bring with it a whole bunch of quality life fixes and features.
The headlining feature is undoubtedly the game’s overhaul to its quest system. According to the team, this should allow for access to “all voyages, story-driven Tall Tales, and world events from the ship's quest table.”
Alongside this, the game’s overall tutorial system has been reworked, with “redesigned menus which display and track your progression more clearly, and guides you to your next objective.”
Other notable changes include:
- Fast travel to voyage locations
- Improved reputation system
- Voyages rebalanced with new loot types
- On-demand world events
Many of the changes coming about with Season 11 seem to be in favour of new players. This lines up with previous rumours which claimed that Sea of Thieves is likely coming to other consoles soon, including the Nintendo Switch and PS5. If this is indeed the case, then Season 11 looks set to be a great way for new players to jump right in. We will have to wait and see whether anything is announced at the upcoming Xbox Developer Direct.
