Announced back in 2021, Contraband is an Xbox console exclusive currently in development by Avalanche Studios and set to be published by Microsoft themselves. While we know very little about the game officially, one insider has now offered our best look yet at the upcoming co-op heist game.
As reported by ‘Middleagegameguy’ via the Xbox Infinite podcast, work on the Avalanche Studios-developed ‘Contraband’ is going smoothly, with gameplay set to be shared at some point this year.
For those who cannot wait however, the insider offered some preliminary details on the co-op heist title, revealing that the game will support up to 8 players in co-op. Making comparisons to the likes of Duke Hazzard, Battlefield Hardline, PayDay and Driver, Contraband will feature – though not entirely focus on – “epic car chases.”
Other notable details include the fact that the game is seemingly set in the 1970s and will be played in a first-person perspective. Though no release window was given, Contraband is reportedly currently in between Alpha and Beta stages, meaning it is well on its way.
It’s a bit too early to begin to judge Contraband, but that being said, it will be interesting to see whether co-op heist games will still be popular by the time it releases. We will have to wait and see.
