Final Fantasy XV is releasing in just over a week but if you are trying to avoid spoilers, you may want to be extra careful over the next few days as some retailers have broken the game's street date and those who have managed to get the game early are posting spoilers online. The Final Fantasy XV dev team is already aware of the situation, with director Hajime Tabata sending out a notice to fans.
Final Fantasy XV early copies were obtained in Peru, well ahead of the scheduled launch, which was meant to take place worldwide on the 29th of November. Since then, a number of early streams of the game have taken place and there are lots of spoilers for early parts of the game floating around the web.
Commenting on the situation, Final Fantasy XV director, Hajime Tabata explained that the team is “regretful” of the situation even if it could not be completely avoided: “Unfortunately, there has been an unauthorised distribution of the boxed edition of Final Fantasy 15 in select regions and we have noticed that gameplay footage from people playing these copies has appeared online. Though this type of situation is brought on by various region-specific circumstances and may not be something that is completely avoidable, we are very regretful of this situation.”
He then goes on to explain that it was a major goal for the team to give Final Fantasy XV a simultaneous worldwide release date: “One of the major goals of Final Fantasy 15 is for everyone to enjoy the story and to discover the surprises together through the simultaneous worldwide release. Due to these recent events, videos with unexpected spoilers could potentially be posted online, so we would like to warn everyone who has been waiting in anticipation for this game.”
Square Enix will likely be working overtime to seek out early videos and such in an effort to get them taken down, so if you happen to get hold of Final Fantasy a little early, you may want to steer clear of posting footage to YouTube or Twitch. Final Fantasy XV is still releasing Tuesday the 29th of November on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. PS4 Pro owners will get a patch in December to unlock the game's frame rate and allow it to run at 60 frames per second.
KitGuru Says: There is a lot of excitement surrounding Final Fantasy XV. However, from the sounds of it, Square Enix is going to be clamping down on any unauthorised early footage, so spoilers may end up being taken down pretty fast. Hopefully, those waiting for release don't get their experience ruined in any way because of this. Are any of you picking up Final Fantasy XV next week? I'm grabbing the PS4 version myself, though I do hope that a PC version arrives at some point.
Instead of promoting it, this anime that you made Square Enix totally UNconvinced me that your new FFXV is any good. Even if I had a PS4/XBone, or even if you do release it on PC, suck it. Not buying this, i will ignore it completely. I still like your FFXIV ARR though, even if it is a P2P game, which I am totally against for.
I liked it, thought it was a good segway to the game by introducing the backstories of all the side characters who follow Noctus along on his journey. This is probably the second time I’ve been excited about playing a FF game since 7. 10 was the only one I felt offered a nice improvement from the ones after 7 but still lacking and ruined by 10-2… man 10-2 was bad for both the story and characters. 12 wasn’t that great either and I don’t even want to talk about that messy 3 part series that came after…
I’m so glad to see a Kingdom Hearts inspired combat system. Feels much more active this way.
Mate i saw the early gameplay, and this thing looks like an average Japanese MMO. Understand this – it’s 2016, and such games with grinding and leveling, they are outdated. Even the combat itself looks point-and-click style, it’s not fully action. Still, as my favorite MMO will still be Guild Wars 2. If I want to play a good MMORPG, id go play that, or WoW or maybe even FFXIV ARR, but this FFXV – NOTHING innovative about this, i do not want to even see a PC port for that one, i hope they will not waste their time on porting it. It’s a fail from all sides. Sorry, but this is a huge waste of $. Not buying it, no thanks to SE for that. Total Waste.
I thought GW1 was great, however GW2.. was a major let down, both in combat and experience. Many MMO games are simply just boring. I don’t think I’ve been excited about an MMO aside from Black Desert in a long time.
Unfortunately, Black desert failed with now what we see as a Pay-to-Win model. Many left and the game is done for. The only MMO to look at is Star Citizen.
I was really hoping Kingdom Come would be one of those types of games. I’m waiting for Bannerlord, really like the Mount & Blade games, just wish there was true co-op in the combat sense… There’s a mod for War Band but it’s really rough. I’m waiting on Star Citizen, I’m an early backer and have had high hopes for it. So far so good.
Mate, let me tell you, Star Citizen has no competitors and they will wild this project for perhaps 2 more years. I understand – they have the biggest movie star actors in the SQ42 campaign, but that thing won’t release soon at all. I don’t know if you realized but SC will soon reach the funding to make the previous Destiny ($140 million).
Elite Dangerous competes with it right now albeit not to the same visual quality. I’m an early backer of SC from the kick starter before they had their site up to accept backing during the kick starter, so I have been waiting a good while on the game, played it since the first module to test the hanger and had lots of fun with a ladder bug that let me fly into space outside of the hanger, good times. I also played lots of Chris Robert’s old games and this is by far the biggest thing I’ve seen at this level for a space sim and can’t wait. However, I’ll be more excited for the next big thing 20 years from now, when AR and VR go into overdrive.
They will already be in overdrive when Star Citizen gets proper support for VR and then MR (mixed reality).
