Update: Last week, we heard some news surrounding the Nintendo Switch's pricing, with sources claiming that here in the UK, the Switch would come in two configurations, one priced at £199 and another with more storage priced at £249. Now that outcome is looking even more likely as UK retailer has put up its listing for the Nintendo Switch this week, sticking to the sub-£200 price point.
Retailer GameSeek has put up an order page for the Nintendo Switch, pricing it at £198.50 for pre-orders, which sits in line with what we heard last week. Interestingly enough, the retailer also lists a specific release date for the console. While officially we only know that the Nintendo Switch is launching sometime in March, GameSeek lists it as launching on the 17th.
We should get confirmation of pricing and the release date from Nintendo quite soon too, as the publisher is set to hold another Switch announcement in January.
Original Story: Nintendo won't be giving us official details on pricing, launch games and release dates for the Nintendo Switch until January but that doesn't mean we won't continue to hear whispers of what is coming beforehand. Many of the Switch's features were known of way ahead of time and it seems that leakers are continuing to push out early information with reports this week claiming that the console will have a launch price as low as £199 here in the UK.
According to a report over on letsplayvideogames, which has been an accurate source of Switch information in the past, UK retailer GAME will be stocking two configurations of the Switch in 2017, one priced at £199 and another priced at £249.
It is important to note that these aren't Retail Recommended Prices as Nintendo does not set an RRP here in the UK. However, according to the report's two anonymous sources, these are the prices that GAME is planning to run with in the UK.
The £199.99 will be the base unit with an unspecified amount of storage and no bundled extras. Meanwhile, the £249 bundle will have more internal storage and a bundled game, though the included game has yet to be confirmed. This pricing ties in with what UK retailers were saying earlier this year, when several of them voiced the opinion that a sub £200 price point would be necessary for the console to succeed.

KitGuru Says: If the Nintendo Switch really does end up launching at just £199.99, then I can see many people deciding to grab one fairly early on, even those who perhaps already own a current generation system. Do you guys think this would be a good launch price for the Nintendo Switch?

I got to ask what you meant by this are you referring to that the the current generation systems will have less power? From what I have heard the new switch will still be under powered by current gen consoles standards. It will have some nifty features mind you that will make it stand out from the crowd but high performance is most likely not one of those features I don’t think.
I think its high performance for how portable it is. If they manage to double the performance of the Tegra X1 then it might be decently competitive.
When I can pick up an Xbone Slim or PS4 Slim for ~£225, £200 for a 720p handheld that’ll be deprived of 3rd party games just isn’t enticing. Unless Nintendo come out with more mature IP’s, this will end up being another Wii U/GameCube.
I’m not sure you realise how many third parties actually want to play ball this time round.
The low price point actually worries me somewhat..
The exact same names who said they’d “play ball” with the Wii U. The fact is with it not being x86, it’ll be expensive to port to (including the lower specs making it even more troublesome), therefore unless it has a large user base, third parties won’t bother with it because it won’t bring in the revenue.
Considering Nintendo is king in the mobile video games sphere – there isn’t going to be much of an issue with userbase.

After 5 years I resigned from my last work and it was a best decision i made in my life… I started working from my house, for this company I stumbled upon on-line, several hrs each day, and my income now is much bigger then it was on my last job… Last check i got was for 9 thousand dollars… Awesome thing about it is that i have more time for my loved ones… CHILP.IT/728813e
No, iOS and Android are. Nintendo are a fading relic and this tablet-console “thing” doesn’t help them get back on track as it’s unlikely to win over new gamers. Less powerful then their Xbox/Playstation. Less powerful than their phone/tablet.
When I talk about mobile gaming I refer to proper gaming not fremium shit. In that regard Nintendo are very much still king.
With Mario now on iOS as well as games like Limbo and This War Of Mine, it’s hard to argue that a tablet or smartphone isn’t just as viable a gaming device as the DS, more so considering most tablets and phones will have a much higher resolution than the Switch.
We’re not talking about viability though. RIght now mobile is king of fremium games and a lot of crapwear. Nntendo rules the roost for premium mobile gaming.
Most of that I think is down to controls. The freemium crap is usually tap based stuff – its hard to see mobile being for serious/premium games without dedicated controls.
Good point, with touch the controls are always going to be limited. Still, I wonder how many people will be put off considering the relatively low specs of the Switch when compared to their 1080p phones & tablets.
That will hinge massively on Nintendo’s ability to have a wide ranging catalogue. With the likes of Skyrim being a large possibilty – there is hope for a bright future.
