Intel’s unlocked Core i3 7350K confirmed, benchmark results leaked

While Intel isn't set to unleash its Kaby Lake desktop processors on the world until the start of 2017, we have been getting some early looks at what's to come in the build up. Just a couple of weeks ago, we first learned that Intel may be releasing an unlocked, overclockable Core i3 for the first time with Kaby Lake and now, that rumour appears to be confirmed as benchmark leaks for the Core i3 7350K have leaked onto the web.

Intel's upcoming Core i3 7350K will join the ranks of the Core i5 and Core i7 with an unlocked version. It will also be getting a pretty huge clock speed improvement, with boost clocks hitting 4.2GHz at stock. Now, it seems that someone has gotten their hands on this little chip ahead of time, as some benchmark results have appeared and show a nice performance bump over last year's model, particularly when it comes to multi-core performance.

The benchmark results were found on GeekBench, showing a Core i3 7350K with two cores, four threads and 4MB of L3 cache running at 4.20GHz on Windows 10 64-bit. The single-core score managed to hit 5137 while the multi-core score hit 10048. For comparison, a Skylake Core i3-6100 is capable of hitting a single-core score of 4033 and a multi-core score of 7555.

Given that the new Core i3 is set to be a K-series chip, some overclocking would yield better results. However, we won't know how capable this chip is when it comes to overclocking until it arrives in January.

KitGuru Says: At this point, the unlocked Core i3 is essentially confirmed, so it will be interesting to see how well it overclocks upon release. What do you guys think of these Core i3 Geekbench results? Are any of you looking to upgrade to Kaby Lake in the new year?

  1. It will be interesting to see how a Skylake i5 locked quad core compares to a Kaby Lake i3 unlocked dual core…..

  2. Kaby Lake is just a refresh of Skylake, like Devil’s Canyon was to Haswell.

That being said, benchmarks are starting to leak in, note the dual core wasn’t overclocked:

  3. Nopesiree, Kaby Lake ain’t a refresh. Even Kaby Lake’s iGPU is diff also. Tis is Core i3-6100 oc’ed to 4.5ghz result, lookit https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/951385

    Single core=5138
    Multi core=9872

Needs 4.5ghz Skylake Core i3 to match 4.2ghz Kaby Lake Core i3. Even the multicore for Kaby Lake is higher as well. Definitely some IPC diff in Kaby Lake….. GG

  4. You gotta admit, thats impresive of a I3, besting a unlocked I5, abeit not by much, but still besting it, Of course you could go back in forth in a tug-o-war if one were to overclock both.

  5. Will it support existing z170 chipsets ?

  6. Yes but only after a bios update

  7. The only reason i can see intel unlocking i3’s now is due to AMD having all of their Zen parts unlocked for overclocking. The rumoured overclockers Zen parts are just better binned processors that will overclock better for a premium. The normal parts will still overclock, just not as well.

  10. I just see it as math, a balance between cores and frequency in fully multi-threaded applications. We just don’t see Intel testing that boundary often as it would cannibalize one or the other.

  11. It’s been one year since I abandoned my old job and I never felt this good… I started doing work on-line, for a company I discovered on-line, several hrs each day, and I earn much more than i did on my last work… My last month payment was for $9k… The best thing about it is the more time i got for my loved ones… CHILP.IT/728813e

  12. 1 year have passed since I finally resigned from my previous work and it changed my life… I started freelancing over internet, for this company I stumbled upon on-line, few hours /a day, and my income now is much bigger then it was on my old job… Last check i got was for $9000… The best thing about this work is the more free time i got for my loved ones… CHILP.IT/728813e
