Nokia will return in 2017 with new Android smartphones

Nokia is finally set to make its return to the smartphone market in an attempt to reclaim its glory days. However, this time around, the focus will be placed on Android, rather than Windows Phone, with plans to release several smartphones over the course of 2017, with the first batch coming in ‘early 2017'.

This was made possible due to licensing, with a company known as HMD Global securing exclusive rights to the Nokia brand name for the next ten years. HMD Global is based in Finland but they aren't exactly well known in the smartphone space, which is where the Nokia license will come in handy while trying to compete next year.

It has been rumoured for some time that Nokia has been planning some form of comeback, with a return to the smartphone market focussed on Android devices rather than Windows-based ones. While Nokia isn't returning entirely, the brand name is- now we just have to wait and see how the phones turn out.

KitGuru Says: Nokia isn't quite the giant force it used to be when it comes to the mobile market. However, perhaps under this new licensing model, we will see the name make a return to prominence. Do you guys think it is possible for Nokia to be as popular as it once was?
