Julian Assange to speak at NZ show using remote tech in February

Using similar technology to Edward Snowden with his tele-screen remote talks, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange will be making an appearance at the No More Secrets, No More Lies lecture at the Aukland University of Technology, in New Zealand. Set to take place in mid-February, the talk will allow for a real time interview and Q&A with the man.

Julian Assange has been hiding out in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for the past four years while he tried to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he believes he would then be extradited to the United States, to face charges of leaking secretive information related to Wikileaks' unveilings. That's where he'll conduct the talk too, though his presence will be broadcast to Auckland to facilitate the two way conversation.

With many accusations being levied at Wikileaks in the past few weeks following the U.S. election and its build up, there are no doubt many questions that the audience will have for the man. The main topic of the show will be media freedom and personal privacy, but attendees are encouraged to ask their own questions and form their own opinions of the man.

Although the main showing will be in Auckland, we're told that the event will by simultaneously cast to Melbourne as well, though specifics for where that showing will take place have yet to be announced.

What we do know is if you want to take part, you will need a ticket. Earlybird tickets will go on sale tomorrow, 1st December. If you don't manage to grab one of those for $20 NZ (£11.50) you can grab one for General Admission for $30 NZ.

KitGuru Says: Julian Assange is quite a polarising figure. How do you guys feel about him? Is he a freedom fighter facing trumped up charges? Or a colluder with foreign actors who seeks to subvert government for his own ideals?

  1. I’m okay with Julian Assange and Edward Snowden. If it weren’t for people like them we wouldn’t know jack what kind of shady things is going on in the “free world”. The only people who want’s them gone are corrupt politicians or greedy fucked up people that will do and say anything to get what they want. It’s thanks to these guys that more people are even thinking about privacy and security.

  2. I wonder if someone will ask him how he feels about Trump becoming president, as Assange seemed so confident that it couldn’t possibly happen as per his response to the criticism of him only targeting one candidate :L
