LG’s 5K UltraFine monitor is delayed, release date not confirmed

Apple may no longer be in the business of creating its own displays but the company is doing a good job of collaborating with other monitor makers instead. This year, Apple announced that it would be partnering up with LG to launch a new range of UltraFine displays sporting 4K and 5K resolutions on an IPS panel. Unfortunately, despite the initial ‘early December' launch date, LG has confirmed that its 5K model has been delayed and doesn't have a new release date yet.

This comes a few weeks after Apple began offering new MacBook Pro buyers discounts on LG's new UltraFine displays in an effort to tempt people into upgrading to 5K.

Speaking with 9to5Mac, an LG representative confirmed that LG has yet to confirm a date for availability of these monitors, despite Apple offering a 20 percent discount in the US up until the 31st of December.

The new LG UltraFine 5K (5120×2880) monitor sits at $1,300 while the 4K (3840×2160) variant will hit the market at $700. Both feature an IPS display with P3 wide colour gamut, a Thunderbolt 3 connection and some USB-C ports. By using Thunderbolt, it is clear that these displays are geared towards those using one of the new MacBook Pros, which come with four thunderbolt ports in lieu of any other connection.

KitGuru Says: Given Apple's introductory pricing for these displays, I imagine those pre-ordering may have expected to receive one before the end of the year but that doesn't seem to be the case. Hopefully those who pre-ordered aren't kept waiting too long.
