HP’s new ENVY display targets MacBook Pro users

Last month, we saw LG jump onboard with Apple's latest line of MacBook Pros, offering up a 5K and a 4K monitor for those looking to use Apple's latest and greatest for productivity. Now, it looks HP is bringing some competition to the market with its new 4K ENVY display, which uses a USB Type-C connection to hook up to the MacBook Pro.

While this particular display will work well with the MacBook and MacBook Pro, it should work just fine with any USB Type-C system at up to 60 watts. The HP ENVY comes with ultra-thin bezels and the base/stand adds to the overall clean look. However, you can remove the base and stand if you have a preferred VESA mount.

The display itself is IPS, so you can expect solid colour performance for video or photo work, it also comes with a 60Hz refresh rate and FreeSync technology, though you probably won't be doing much gaming on a 4K monitor like this, especially with a MacBook. Either way, this monitor will hit the market at $499, which puts it at a cheaper price point compared to LG's 4K offering.

KitGuru Says: I have always found my MacBook to be a good little machine for work, but not so much for entertainment purposes, so putting FreeSync in a monitor like this seems like an add choice. Still though, the price is half-decent and the 4K resolution will be useful for those who require lots of screen space.
