Zotac’s new Zbox packs some serious gaming power

While Steam Machines aren't necessarily a thing these days, PC makers are still working hard on delivering tiny systems that can provide some serious gaming horsepower. This year, Zotac is launching its most powerful Zbox mini-PC yet, the Magnus EN1070K, packing in a new Intel Core i5 Kaby Lake processor and an Nvidia GTX 1070.

This particular Zbox was announced at CES earlier this month, packing high-end PC gaming components into a a tiny 8.27 X 7.9 inch chassis. It is a tiny system, but aside from CPU and GPU power, it can also feature up to 32GB of RAM, an M.2 SSD and another 2.5-inch SATA drive.

For ports, you get one USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, one USB 3.1 Type A and a USB 3.1 Type C port, an SD card reader, dual Ethernet connections, two HDMI ports and two DisplayPorts.

We don't have exact pricing or availability information just yet but it should start in the $1500 range and go up depending on RAM and storage options. If you don't need something quite that powerful, there is an RX 480 version of the Magnus Zbox also available, which we wrote about last year.

KitGuru Says: This seems like a well spec'd machine, though I do wonder how well it handles heat, especially with a Kaby Lake CPU and GTX 1070 in there. Are any of you looking to put together or pick up a mini-PC at some point this year?

  1. Hmm, it is nice, however the new Asrock for me wins it out with the faster 7700k and the 3 M.2 slots. If however this was updated in the future with the faster CPU and an additional M.2 slot I would be all over it. The problem then may be throttling of the CPU and thus would need greater cooling capacity.

It also appears that the GTX1080 isn’t in MXM format so none of these models will be able to support that GPU which would be a shame.

  3. Isn’t this the machine with the cut-down MXM 1070N variant that’s locked to like 96W and probably won’t provide gaming performance better than a 1060?

Or am I wrong? I think this is the machine.
