While multiplayer video games have been a big part of the industry for decades now, many modern releases have received criticism for their mostly-static nature, with a majority of online matches going just one of a few ways. In response to this, PlayFusion has announced Ascendant Infinity – an ‘adaption shooter’ “set in a dynamically-changing, biopunk-infused world, wrapped up in a playful ‘80s vibe.”
Making the announcement via a press release, the team at PlayFusion published their first trailer for Ascendant Infinity. Featuring a tongue-in-cheek presentation which harkens back to old 80s and 90s sitcoms, the game is said to be a squad-based tactical 3v3 PvP shooter which will separate itself from the crowd through its dynamism – with the team describing it as follows:
“Ascendant Infinity sends players to a retro sci-fi playground with an irreverent ‘80s tone. Against this backdrop, it’s time to truly ‘Play your way’. From in-the-moment tactical decisions to the virtually limitless customisation options thanks to the fully modular weapons system, every game session is a fresh adventure.”
While the game’s core appears to be quite similar to other team-based PvP shooters, Ascendant Infinity’s focus on offering a much more dynamic world to play in could lead to some pretty exciting and emergent moments. We will have to wait and see, but the concept is certainly interesting.
