Until Dawn was a PlayStation 4 exclusive choice-based narrative title developed by Supermassive Games back in 2015. Though the game was a modest success, neither Sony nor Supermassive have returned to the property since…until now. Almost a decade after its initial release, Until Dawn is set to get a film adaptation.
As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, notable horror director David F. Sandberg is set to direct a film adaptation of Until Dawn. For the uninitiated, while he might be known now for his work on the two Shazam! films, Sandberg started his career in the industry directing horror titles – most notably the viral short film Lights Out (which he then turned into a full feature).
Little is known about the adaptation currently, except for the fact that it will reportedly be “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre, centering on an ensemble cast”. Speaking of the cast, Until Dawn’s entire cast consisted of known film and TV actors, with their likenesses being represented accurately in the game.
Considering the fact that it is now being adapted into a film, it’ll be curious to see whether any of the actors end up reprising their roles – or if Sony is wanting to keep the two separate. We will have to wait and see.
