LG is going to fix its 5K monitor issues to stop routers from breaking it

Earlier this week, LG's UltraFine 5K monitors finally began shipping out to Apple customers but unfortunately, buyers of the $1300 monitor quickly discovered some major problems. The main issue was that the display would flicker or become completely unresponsive when placed within a two meter distance of a wireless router, LG previously acknowledged the issue but now the company has put a plan in place to make things right.

It seems that LG did not put enough shielding over components inside of the monitor, allowing wireless routers to just knock out the signal. As a result, all 5K UltraFine monitors manufactured after February 2017 “will be fitted with enhanced shielding”.

Apparently monitors already out in the wild will be able to be ‘retrofitted' with additional shielding. Due to this, it appears that no recall will be taking place for existing units but repairs will be offered on a case by case basis. It seems that customers with complaints should be able to contact customer service and get a repair organised.

KitGuru Says: Hopefully those who already have their 5K monitors can get it fixed up as soon as possible, after all, no $1300 monitor should be switching itself off whether it is near a wireless router or not.
