While Windows 10 has managed to round up a few hundred million users at this point, there is still more work to be done on Microsoft's end to get people to upgrade. This week, the company began targeting enterprise users, urging them to upgrade from Windows 7 as the ageing OS is no longer fit for purpose in the work place as it “can no longer keep up with increased security requirements”.
The new message came from Microsoft's German Technet blog (translated), sticking with Windows 7 “provides higher operating costs” for enterprise due to increased maintenance, lost working time due to increased support requests or malware attacks. The post also goes on to note that “many hardware manufacturers no longer provide drivers for Windows 7”.
Aside from that, Microsoft also wanted to bring up the fact that older operating systems will soon be unable to support newer processors from the likes of Intel and AMD, making it harder for those who prefer Windows 7 to upgrade to more modern systems.
Microsoft still supports Windows 7 for the time being but those updates will cease in 2020, at which point the operating system could become vulnerable to zero day exploits and other attacks.
KitGuru Says: Microsoft has been very pushy with Windows 10 since its launch but it seems enterprise users are really sticking to their guns, with quite a few businesses still running Windows 7. Perhaps more users would be willing to upgrade if proper testing was in place once again for automatic updates, which have come with their fair share of issues since Windows 10's launch.Β
Yea and if Wind 10 was not in the picture MS would be still praising Win 7 as the best for this sector since even MS knows Win 8 & 8.1 were pretty much duds..lol
Windows 7 was good, but 10 are better. People however had trauma from windows 8 and are afraid and play it safe with windows 7.
It reminds me how everyone got hooked on windows XP, because windows vista was a rushed half-backed hell and they where didn’t even want to hear about moving to windows 7.
And now the same people doesn’t want to move to windows 10, well it is the human nature π

You do realize 8.1 and 10 are pretty much identical at the core, right? In fact, W10 breaks itself and is multiple times more problematic than 8.1? And if you use Start 8, or StartIsBack, or Classic Shell, and maybe Aero Glass for the W7 transparency look, it’s basically a more stable W10?
Because I don’t think people seem to get this…
Yea I used classic shell on all Win 8 & 8.1 installs & it made it feel like a Windows 7 install I liked 8.1 with this type of setup. I also like Win 10 but at the same time I find out of the box install it takes to many liberties to do stuff on it’s own. Once you take back control of as Win 10 install it works just fine. I also find turning off Win updates is your best friend because once you get your system working good here comes a new update that breaks something so having it turned off except for when a new version comes out is the way to go for myself and many others.
Some will say oh you don’t get the security updates then my response is if you know how to run a system and know what not to do you are just fine. Hell I don’t even run antivirus on my gaming system so I have all of the resources put towards the games. That system has never had a virus on it since I built it and it started out with win 7 then 8.1 and now 10. Yes it had malware once or twice nothing major and was cleaned in about 10 minutes maybe less.
I liked Win 7 and 8.1 hated Win 10 at first because of all the automated crap but soon figured out how to disable all of that and get control of the system again and now I like it just fine. Heck the second version of 10’s start menu even grew on me over time. I do still have to fully get rid of cortana mind you the second version of 10 seems to keep it on even if you remove or disable stuff for it. I just never took the time to figure it out yet..lol
