HP is recalling 100,000 laptop batteries

It looks like Samsung isn't the only company to run into some bad luck with batteries lately as HP has announced that it is recalling thousands of laptop batteries due to risk of overheating and catching fire. The recall affects 101,000 laptop batteries in total, all sold between March 2013 and October 2016 in various parts of the world.

HP has 0nly received a handful of reports pertaining to battery fires but still, the company plans to try and recall batteries sold in the US, Canada and Mexico specifically. Fortunately, all of these batteries are removable, so laptops can still be used while plugged in via the power adapter while users wait for their replacement to come through.

To check if your HP laptop is part of the recall program, you will need to check the underside of your battery for one of the following codes:

• 6BZLU
• 6CGFK
• 6CGFQ
• 6CZMB
• 6DEMA
• 6DEMH
• 6DGAL
• 6EBVA

HP is urging users to stop using affected batteries immediately to avoid potential hazards. A free battery replacement will then be provided after filling out the recall form, HERE. Fortunately though, laptops can still be used in the meantime, though it'll need to be connected to the wall.

KitGuru Says: HP received less than ten reports of battery fires before issuing this wide recall, so the company has kept on top of it relatively well and with this swift action, further accidents may end up being avoided entirely.
