Call of Duty has hit a rough patch over the last few years, sales have been declining as players began getting sick of the franchise's on-going futuristic themes. It seems that Infinite Warfare's jump to full-blown Sci-Fi was a step too far, resulting in a low point for the series in terms of sales. Fortunately, this appears to have caught Activision's attention, with execs promising that Call of Duty will ‘return to its roots'.
Sales for Infinite Warfare were down and as a result, so was Activision's revenue, despite the fact that Modern Warfare: Remastered was packaged with some versions of Infinite Warfare.
As Activision's Eric Hirshberg explains it, Infinite Warfare's setting “didn't resonate” with fans and “wasn't the success” that the publisher planned for it to be. However, it is important to note that Call of Duty is on a three-year development cycle now so this year's ‘back to roots' game will have been in development for some time already, prior to Infinite Warfare failing.
KitGuru Says: After Infinite Warfare failed to live up to expectations, it will be really interesting to see what direction Sledge Hammer will take for this year's game. One thing is for sure though, jetpacks need to go and boots need to be back on the ground to get series' veterans interested again in large numbers.

That’s wrong: revenue went up 49%. Partly thanks to things like Candy Crush. What you’re thinking about is its core business, and yes, revenue was down there.
Hope “back to roots” includes a server browser and hostable dedi server files as well.

On tuesday I got a great new Land Rover Range Rover from having earned $8752 this last four weeks.. Its the most-financialy rewarding I’ve had.. It sounds unbelievable but you wont forgive yourself if you don’t check it

I was a big fan from the beginning of the franchise from the start back in the old days. I have them on CD’s even today in my collection of FPS games what I was love most. Old COD story lines was great, I love to play them, and how we all recall they was way long and very joyful for everybody.
What you did after MW2 it’s sucks man, cutting down the story lines what can be crossed in few hours, recycle things for each “new” release and etc. Sure you are lost many loyal fans of the franchise and who stayed are mostly 13-14 year old kids fast clicking happy.
Years are passed from my last rush feeling inside me according to COD game, quit after MW2. To be honest last time I had that feeling playing last two Wolfenstein’s.
To be honest IW is not so bad game, but that is not CODm have nothing with his ruts.
Maybe to create a new franchise for that kind of futuristic&space game, but can not be under COD name. That is all from my point of view and my opinion.
Hope you will keep on you mind all the critics from your oldest COD fans Activision and make the COD franchise great again. Time will tell till next release.

They say back to roots every year and it’s bullschit every year. The days of MW2 are only going to come back when the makers of mw2 actually come back. MW2 was the best cod ever made. I hope they remaster it minus the noob tubes, using c4 as a grenade, and quick scoping.
