We have heard a few times that Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata would like to see the game running on PCs at some point after the console release. However, we had no idea how much ambition he had for a high-end PC version. It turns out that if green-lit, Final Fantasy XV on PC could be more than just the standard game as we know it now, as Tabata has expressed interest in really beefing up the technical side of things for high-end PCs and has also made mention of mod support.
Hajime Tabata spoke once again about Final Fantasy XV on PC during an interview with Gematsu, saying that he would “like to release the game on PC as a technical attempt”, in order to show it running at its best on a high-end system.
He also added that the rest of the Final Fantasy XV team would like to see the game running on PC too. After that though, Tabata started talking about further ambitions for a PC version: “Also, I would like to try developing on PC to pursue a unique way of playing with PC-exclusive features like making your own quests and enjoying the world using things like mods.”
When it comes to PCs, Final Fantasy games have a mixed history, some titles run well, others are locked to 30 frames per second. However, it sounds like Tabata has the right idea when approaching a PC version of Final Fantasy XV. Unfortunately, we still have no green-light on a PC release, on top of that, it doesn't sound like work on a PC version has begun, so it could be a few years before we see it, if ever.
There were rumours late last year that we may see a PC version in 2018 alongside the Final Fantasy VII remake but nothing official has come about just yet.

KitGuru Says: I've already put quite a few hours into Final Fantasy XV running on a PS4 Pro, so I've had a glimpse at how great this game can look at higher resolutions. However, a PC version would really be the way to go for both higher graphical fidelity and performance. It sounds like Tabata has the ambition to create a good PC version of the game, we just need Square Enix to give it the go-ahead.
