22% of KitGuru readers would spend more than £500 on a graphics card

KitGuru social media is always buzzing, and on Saturday we asked our Facebook readers to let us know how much they would be willing to spend on a graphics card. The answers of around 1,500 readers made a lot of sense to us, but a few of the results were surprising.

Of the readers polled on Saturday, almost 18% said that they would be willing to spend between £351 and £500 on a new graphics card. The second most popular price zone was between £250 and £300, with 15.4% saying that would be their preferred budget.

However, the most surprising statistic for us was how many readers would spend more than £500 on a graphics card.

11.7% said they would be willing to spend up to £750 and another 4.6% said they would spend up to £1000 on a new graphics card. 5.3% said they would spend more than £1000 on a flagship product.

This means that a total of 21.6% KitGuru social media readers polled would spend more than £500 on a graphics card this year. This is a staggering result – especially when you factor in that only 3.2% would be willing to spend less than £100.

KitGuru says: With the Nvidia GTX 1080ti official announcement just around the corner it would certainly appear that many KitGuru readers will be keeping their eyes out for a full analysis before a possible purchase.

  1. Rather than ‘Would you’ you might have been better with ‘Can you’.

  2. Yeah, better to ask “how much did you spend on your last card”, that would probably be a better indication of future likely expenditure.

  3. Except the last card I bought was a £100 750ti, yet I’m saving £450 for a 1070. Quite a difference

  4. Last card i bought was a GTX 770 for £220, i got a Titan X Maxwell as a gift from my workplace when i left last year.

Saving up for a Titan X Pascal or 1080Ti now.

  5. i would still go over 500 but thats cus i need it atm 2 gtx 1080 cards probably won’t upgrade to gtx 1080ti unless really really needed

  6. I said “better”, not “infallible” 🙂

  7. I was quite lucky for an R9 290 that was given to me since I don’t have money to splurge on stuff.

  8. 10-9-14 Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £379.99

Just pulled my old order off Overclockers UK, I have no plans of upgrading before the dust settles on Vega and the 1080ti so i’m averaging £125 per year, thats really not too expensive as hobbies go. Would I spend over £500? Probably not, I think those sort of figures are just down to lack of competition.

  9. No to mention ‘will you’

  10. I was lucky & got my Sapphire Tri-X 390x cards for for $339 CAD each. I own a computer store and my supplier said Happy Bday ___ I will give them both to you for our cost price plus shipping I thought to myself how can I refuse this since they were retailing for $569-$659 at that time and sometimes you seen them over priced to $700. My next card will be a single mind you crossfire works but I just want to go back to the simple way of doing it and not worry if both cards are doing their thing or not. So either Vega or Nvidia Volta.

  11. I have a titan x pascal and had a titan x maxwel. Why? because i want 60 fps with max settings in one card.

  12. I bought the last two Titan generations, but between Nvidia further gouging the market with another 30% price increase, and not being able to buy one outside the USA (or at least in Australia), I’m stuck on a straight 1080. And with vega close, they won’t be getting money for the Ti either.

  13. Hi, you are using the image I created over at WCCFTech. Its great to see you using it but credit doesn’t hurt. ;p
