Samsung will unveil the Galaxy S8 on the 29th of March

It looks like previous reports surrounding the Galaxy S8 launch date were true as at the Mobile World Congress today, Samsung confirmed that it would be holding one of its Unpacked 2017 events at the end of March. At this event, we will finally be getting official details on the Galaxy S8, alongside an official release date.

This falls perfectly in line with reports last week that Samsung would be unveiling the Galaxy S8 on the 29th of March and start shipping units out on the 21st of April. As we can see from the official Unpacked 2017 invitation, it seems pretty clear that this is a Galaxy S8 focussed event and not some other device.

In the meantime, we can go back over some of the more reputable reports we've received so far about the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. For starters, the Edge branding is gone, both flagships this year will feature curved displays. Secondly, the full spec sheet for the Galaxy S8+ leaked last week, showing a larger display and a nicer camera than what we are expecting from the standard Galaxy S8.

As for what's going on under the hood, in the standard Galaxy S8, we are expecting to find the Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is being manufactured by Samsung for Qualcomm. In fact, the Galaxy S8 might be one of the only flagships to sport this chip all year as prior reports claimed that Samsung has been hogging most of the supply so far.
