PlayStation’s future will be “ubiquitous” across console, PC, mobile and cloud

While Sony might be a massive multi-media company whose products range from films to electronics, TVs, headphones and more, the PlayStation brand remains one of its most important. Speaking on its future, Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida stated that “Wherever there is computing, users will be able to play their favorite games seamlessly.”

In a video interview conducted by Norges Bank Investment Management (and transcribed by Insider-Gaming), Sony’s CEO Kenichiro Yoshida sat down to discuss all manner of topics. Speaking on the short to near term strategy for PlayStation, Yoshida stated:

“It will be ubiquitous. Wherever there is computing, users will be able to play their favorite games seamlessly”. Going into slightly more detail, Yoshida claimed that while “PlayStation will remain our core product,” the company will “expand our gaming experiences to PC, mobile, and cloud.”

Using the specific term ‘gaming experiences’ is interesting, as it does not outright state that PlayStation’s titles will be ported to these systems. Of course, we have seen Sony expand in recent years to the PC market, bringing their older titles to a whole new audience. Furthermore, Sony has been testing cloud streaming across devices in recent months, with the program slowly but surely working its way to a full release.

At the very least, one thing which is clear is that Sony has no plans to bring its PlayStation games to other consoles. While this does not come as a surprise, recent rumours have claimed that Xbox is looking to go multi-platform in the coming years – and so we will see what Sony has to say about its games then.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Yoshida’s statement? Is their current strategy working? Will PlayStation ever bring their games to Xbox or Nintendo? Let us know down below.
