In recent years, we have seen a surge in the number of internally-developed video game documentaries, with the likes of Sony and Microsoft giving deeper insight into the creation of their titles. One of the first studios to embrace this format was Naughty Dog, releasing a documentary for The Last of Us all the way back in 2014. A follow-up was announced earlier this month – with Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II now getting an official premiere date.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the team at Naughty Dog said “Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II is coming on February 2! You'll be able to watch this documentary on YouTube and as part of an upcoming downloadable patch for #TLOU2Remastered. The update also includes additional new skins for Ellie and Abby!”
It is interesting to see the documentary being added to YouTube at the same time as the update for the game. While the first Grounded documentary was published to YouTube, the decision to add its sequel within the game itself led some to believe it might be exclusive to the recently-released Part II Remaster.
That said, it is exciting to see that this is not the case. Hopefully Grounded II ends up being just as excellent as the first documentary.
