We've now seen what AMD is bringing to the table in the high-end CPU market this year but there are still plenty of people waiting on cheaper options based on the Zen microarchitecture. Aside from Ryzen desktop CPUs, including the R7 8 Core, R5 6 Core and R3 4 Core series it looks like can also expect APUs later this year.
Responding to questions on Reddit earlier this week, an AMD representative explained that ‘Ryzen' is the brand for the ‘Zen' architecture launching this year. The rollout starts on March 2nd with Ryzen 7 but will spread to APUs (CPU+GPU SoC) in the second half of the year.
There will also be some Zen-based mobile products in the second half of 2017, so AMD appear to have done a good job when it comes to scaling the architecture down to lower power products.
Aside from APUs, AMD will be rolling out some 6 Core/12 Thread Ryzen 5 series processors, with the top end R5 chip rumoured to cost around $250.
KitGuru Says: AMD's Ryzen 7 CPUs have a lot of buzz but not everyone can spend $329+ on a CPU. How many of you are waiting on cheaper Ryzen CPUs or even APUs?
I will need a new laptop this year; was thinking about buying while I’m in the US, but considering the price and power of Zen, waiting is starting to seem like the smarter option. Raven Ridge might be more interesting than a Kaby Lake.

I wonder if Apple will ditch Intel for AMD for apples 2017 MacBook pros?
I will be waiting for a proper Ryzen APU.
me too; i would absolutely love a powerful , be it expensive , apu. i’v got a8-7600 , i’v almost tried ryzen 7 1700 , and patiently waiting for the all-powerful apu.
why not a 8 core cpu in an all new iMac?
Apple needs to support the Nvidia Pascal core… Can’t run a gtx 1080 on 10.12.x
We probably wont get APU chip with cpu side as good as ryzen 1700 on next APU iteration, but i would gladly settle with R5 or R3 chip for my (small) secondary PC. Not to mention APU laptops.. i would be more than happy to ditch intel igpu to AMD APU. Those just seem to be more compatible. Whats is the point of having more flops if only setting compatible with full hd projector is 640×480, or not getting your OS wake up if you unhook hdmi from sleeping intel igpu laptop and try to wake it (or power monitor after laptop). Intel makes awesome CPUs, but i truly hate their iGPU. Best part is that manufacturers have decided that you do not need option to disable iGPU and use nvidia/amd gpu on laptop. i refuse to buy that kind of laptop
these days i’m hunting for ANY big news about apus; it seems i’m a bit early…
Yes and more likely the GPU is the first to break before the MB or other vital parts in a laptop. So APU is best since it is more balanced in terms of power, heat and performance.
