Mad Catz has ceased operations and filed for bankruptcy

After a year or so of struggling financially, laying off staff and even getting delisted from the New York Stock Exchange, Mad Catz has officially filed for bankruptcy and will cease operations immediately. Mad Catz is perhaps best known for ifs RAT series of mice, the company also went on to supply instruments for the latest version of Rock Band.

Mad Catz had a rough time with the Rock Band deal, which eventually led to Harmonix discontinuing the contract and moving to a new peripheral maker.

Since mid 2016, Mad Catz has been stuck in a decline after reporting an $11 million loss. After that, the company cut its workforce down by 37 percent but these cutbacks weren't enough to keep the company afloat it seems.

Initially, the Mad Catz board attempted to sell the company but no third-party was interested in stepping in at this time. As a result, President and CEO, Karen McGinnis has confirmed today that “the company has been unable to find a satisfactory solution to its cash liquidity problems”.

KitGuru Says: I actually really liked the Mad Catz RAT mice. They looked a little over the top but they were nice to use. It will certainly be a shame to see them gone in the future. Did any of you ever own a Mad Catz peripheral? Are you still using one right now?

  1. I had the Mad Catz R.A.T 7 about 2 years ago that I wanted to love so much, I even ordered all the cool extra bits direct from Mad Catz but that Philips TWIN EYE sensor was so unpredictable, mid battle you’d either get a mouse that would only track horizontal or vertical, or sitting on a desktop it would start to drift diagonally up and right. Such a shame as with all the customisation I could get it to fit my hand perfectly and it actually had a useable pinky rest.

  2. The mmo7 i currently use is my second rat, and it has been my favorite mouse. Never had any other that i could customize to fit my hand so well. And the button placment is absolutely perfect. Ive been unable to find anything i like more. Too bad this happened to a company that makes such great gaming gear.

  3. Mad Catz abandoned the PC audience about three years ago. The keyboards where expensive and out dated, there is not even one mechanical keyboard in the market with Mad Catz branding on it, the mice are out dated and the only change is the sensor and they are expensive.
You want a top performers comb go for Logitech G502 + G810 for the cost of R.A.T mouse only. You want something crazy go for Logitech G900+G910 and they still cost less than a three years old Mad Catz keyboard. That comparison with Logitech offerings only, you can find more with Razor, Corsair ,Roccat, ASUS ROG and even Tesoro, Sound Blaster and other small names.

  4. so its there fualt for selling old outdate mice and no new upgrades wile other coumpays mice were a lot cheaper and work better i never like them they looked gross too many buttens

  6. Never really been a particular fan of Mad Catz IMO remember the days of being at a friend’s house playing xbox & xbox 360 and someone always got stuck the awful Catz gamepad with the poor ergonomics and sticky D-Pad or thumbstick.
Tbh I’ve never even really considered any of their pc peripherals as they never really took my fancy for looks especially for price. My experience for mad catz stuff is that it’s always been a bit sub par of what else is available on the market at the time. Their RAT mice seemed like one of the few better products that were out there but yet again seemed to cost far too much for what it was offering.
