Price drops are coming in for GTX 1080s and Intel CPUs at UK retailers

Earlier this week we heard that retailers in the US were starting to offer reduced pricing for Intel's desktop processors in the build up to AMD's Ryzen launch today and now it looks like UK retailers are joining in the fun. However, it's not just CPUs going on sale this week here in the UK, as there are plenty of discounts to be had for GTX 1080 graphics cards too as retailers make room for the incoming GTX 1080Ti.

These particular price drops were found over at Overclockers UK, which is currently selling the Intel Core i7 6700K and Core i5 6600K for 11 percent off, bringing prices down to £319.99 and £229.99 respectively. Alternatively, the Core i7 Broadwell-E 6800K is down to £398.99, the 6900K is £979.99 and the Kaby Lake Core i7 7700K is down to £329.99.

Given the recent announcement of the GTX 1080Ti, now is actually also a really good time to find a deal on a GTX 1080, which are finally starting to drop in price after holding their value since launch. For starters, EVGA's GTX 1080 FTW edition, Zotac's GTX 1080 AMP Extreme and MSI's GTX 1080 Gaming X GPUs are now available new for under £599.99.

Going down the list a bit and we can find the Asus GTX 1080 Strix Edition going for £569.99, Gigabyte's GTX 1080 G1 at £539.99 and KFA2's GTX 1080 EX OC hitting under the £499.99 barrier. OCUK has a few other options in stock hitting various price points between £499 and £599 so if you've been holding off on upgrading, it might be worth taking a look.

Alternatively, Amazon has also cut prices across the board for GTX 1080s with Prime delivery, bringing custom cooled options from Asus, MSI, Asus and more well below the £600 mark.

KitGuru Says: While the CPU price drops are less impressive, there are some really good deals going for GTX 1080s right now. Are any of you thinking about making an upgrade soon?  Or perhaps even going SLI?

Oh good they’re in line with Amazon now.

  2. Nobody cares. Prices will drop even more when VEGA is launched.

  3. lol gotta love Brexit. I got the 6700k for less than that from Overclockers a year ago.. and now £319.99 is supposed to be a discount price haha

  4. Why is it Overclockers is the only store that gets mentioned on here? Scan has a 1080 for £475 with free delivery https://www.scan.co.uk/products/innovision-3d-geforce-gtx-1080-twin-x2-8gb-gddr5x-vr-ready-graphics-card-2560-core-1607mhz-gpu-1733m

Vega. Faster. Cheaper. In two months time. Waiting.
(Unless I can do ebay 1080 under 400)

Well, the price cuts are worth it. Shut the fuck up AMD fanboys, Vega will be on par with the 1080 but not with the 1080 Ti.

  7. You realise that when we leave the EU the government will have to ability to lower VAT from 20% (member states not having the ability to lower rates, once they have raised them)?

  8. Brexit hasn’t happened yet you leftie moron. And this has nothing to do with it.

  9. lol so the pound hasn’t dropped at all in value since the Brexit vote? The price increases all over are just a coincidence?
And for the record I voted leave.

  10. The pound dropped due to uncertainty. And what increases are you talking about?

The CPI right now(~1.8-1.9%) is in line with BoE targets(2%).

  11. When the £ dropped the prices of tech in £ increased.

It effectively gave a 10-20% discount if you bought before the £ dropped.

That has had a knock on effect in the second hand market too.

  12. You do realise that that is not very likely don’t you ?

If it does drop it isnt going to be to 5% either.

  13. You can. Around £350-60 for a FE. That will still have 2 years plus guarantee (transferable to new owner) on it too for some brands.

  14. Well, the data doesn’t support your claim.

In fact, in some cases, for the UK market, the prices dropped during Brexit.
