AMD's Ryzen 7 processors are officially available and following positive reviews, many are looking into building a new AMD-based system at the moment. Unfortunately, there is one thing standing in the way- motherboard supply. Right now it seems that X370 and to a lesser extent B350 motherboards are becoming very difficult to find in stock, with retailers like Overclockers UK, Amazon and more stuck with offering pre-orders while they await new shipments. With so many readers emailing us complaining they aren't buying a Ryzen CPU until motherboard stock is available (and our public poll showed 33% of readers were holding off on a purchase for the time being) we spoke with our industry sources to find out when we can expect new AM4 availability, alongside why this problem arose in the first place.
Let's start with the root of the problem. We already know that retail Ryzen CPUs are great, we have even given our highest gold award to both the Ryzen 7 1800x and 1700x. However, Ryzen wasn't always looking this promising and from what we have heard from insiders, motherboard makers were less than impressed with the first Ryzen engineering samples they received some time before the launch. As a result many major motherboard manufacturers held off on making a lot of stock available as they were unsure how well X370 and B350 boards would actually sell.
It wasn't until later sample revisions and reviews arrived that things started to look so positive. Unfortunately, this didn't leave much time for major motherboard manufacturers to boost their stock, leaving us with a shortage for the time being. Right now if you look for X370 motherboards on Amazon UK, you will only find four listed, two from ASUS and two from MSI with all four models out of stock. Overclockers UK has a much wider selection of motherboards to choose from but they are all listed as ‘pre-order' currently.
According to our industry source, the major motherboard manufacturers have been scrambling to get UK stocks in the wake of Ryzen's successful launch. From what we have heard, those of you waiting to build a system will be able to pick up a range of X370 motherboards within the next two weeks, at which point stock should return to healthy levels. This can only be good for AMD sales, as it seems somewhat pointless buying Ryzen if you are having a problem getting a proper motherboard to pair up with it.
KitGuru Says: Hopefully this temporary shortage in motherboards doesn't affect Ryzen's momentum too much. Are any of you guys currently waiting on motherboards to arrive before building a new AMD-based system? Were you lucky enough to get one prior to stock running out?
Those silly mobo companies. All you had to do was be the only company with available X370’s and you’d make some $$$. RIP. guess I’ll wait for the 1600X since I can’t get a mobo anyhow
yep been waiting since it launched. not getting an entry level board thanks very much

i preordered a motherboard as soon as it went up on the site (newegg) and still haven’t received it. It says out of stock…. I must of been the first to preorder as well….im in Canada.
I currently have a 1800x and m.2 drive and ddr4 ram sitting here waiting on amazon to get more asus boards back in stock. Hopefully this next batch will have decent bios.
Props due though, MSI actually ensured they had most of a top to bottom stack. Every other mobo manufacturer released pretty well much with two X370’s and two B350’s.
Yep.
Imagine a car manufacturer telling you how great it is, they sell you everything except the frame.
Great body, fantastic wheels, awesome wheels. Just stack it all up in a heap and look pretty.

I hate it but it is a relief knowing I’m not the only one with a stack of parts just waiting on my motherboard to get in. Stay strong ladies and gents. On the upside Amazon did give me a 30 dollar credit and 1 day shipping for the hassle.
I’m still looking for a good motherboard and don’t have where to choose from, come on!
I got 10% off my CPU and mother board order + 1 day shipping + 10 dollar credit. I would’ve ordered somewhere else If amazon hadn’t strung me along for the last 6 days. Now everyone is out of stock.
I am in Canada as will went thou Canada computers on feb 22.. I my self have a nice stack of box’s – a MB…
I feel your pain my friend.. 3700$ Cnd in a corner. Each day waking by the pile hurts.
Holy crap Ryzen cpu and AM4 are selling like hotcakes. This is unanticipated shortage.
You might want to order in Australia. Plenty of supplies. Sorry for teasing you guys just a joke.

AsRock MAIL-IN REBATE ( DATE OF PURCHASE MAR 03 – APR 06, 2017 ) I need a sin# to fill this out.. So I better get it way before Apr 06 2017.. I Now seen that his has changed 3 times form Mar 03 to 10th.. Then to the 24 now to Apr 06. Someone underestimated On how Red team fan base Is. GO AMD..
Its a complete Feck up.
Dodgy bios etc.
I ordered all my parts early. The only one I got was the FAN.
So no RAM/NO RYZEN/ No motherboard.
Nice problem….hope you managed to get 1070 price cut
“As a result many major motherboard manufacturers held off on making a lot of stock available as they were unsure how well X370 and B350 boards would actually sell.”
I had suspected that it was something like this. They thought Ryzen would be a failure and didn’t want to overcommit. Such a depressing situation – I preordered my mobo but I’ve yet to hear anything about it. The shortage must be massive, and will probably take a while to clear up.
I’ve been waiting on Vega/1080Ti anyways, and it wouldn’t hurt to stall while BIOS’s, microcode, and drivers are tuned further for Ryzen. So, no huge rush on my end. I just hope the parts I’ve ordered actually work, can’t really test them at the moment.
new cooler, and ram sitting in a box, cpu coming today… still no freakin asus hero. Beating my head into a wall waiting on this. Bought a 4k monitor already have that hooked up at least. Driving me insane waiting.
Asus RoG is all I’m waiting for…. This is crazy…
Sitting staring at an 1800x box/chip and no motherboard at the moment. 🙁 And of course the price of some components has dropped since too … what a mess.
Asrock are putting out new EFI revisions almost daily. I hope they keep at it.
my room looks the same, these motherboard manufacturers should read the forums more and see how most of the world was waiting for Ryzen, and then to have a “what-ever” attitude is disgusting, end users are pissed and I bet AMD themselves are too, they are probably losing loads of sales as no mobo’s are available.
The QuickSilver was at the lowest it’s been after stalking for months now at €475. I think it was a sale so I wasted no time.
Very true. Now it’s gonna be about the first mobo company to replenish supplies.
I pre-ordered 13 minutes into the pre-order window on Feb 22nd @ 1:00PM EDT… Did I get my stuff right away? Nope… Amazon must have thrown away the first come first serve policy, because my CPU arrived on the 6th, MSI X370 Titanium Motherboard still unknown ETA, and people who ordered HOURS after me got their stuff already… WTF Amazon?
Everyone has been blaming AMD for BIOS issues, when sin e the beginning, I’ve been saying that it was probably the fault of the motherboard manufacturers and that they’ve been probably dragging their feet…and I was right, the mobo manufacturers have been probably dragging their feet in everythinf
Sorry mate! I got super lucky today by stumbling on Newwgg and snatched the Asus Crosshair VI. Yes, I preordered it on Amazon. They made me so mad after contacting customer service and cancelled my pre-order. It didn’t have a ship date so there was no loss there. If you’re in the states, I would suggest going to newegg and sign up for their email notification. The word on the street is maybe next wednesday that the next shipment should come in.
I got super lucky by stumbling on newegg today and they had it available. I thought I misread the add to cart button.
Haha awesome! I’m not in the states unfortunately. Lucky you
My mistake was waiting for mini ITX and now I can’t even find a full sized or a micro ??
Finally someone is covering this story. Such a shame we can’t build our PCs!
“within the next two weeks” is promising but still makes me sad.
Yeah I ordered the same one. Go MSI. I am glad newegg did one per customer.
Estimated ship date is Mar 30, 2017. (https://www.massdrop.com/buy/msi-x370-gaming-pro-carbon-for-amd-ryzen)
Well, I called Newegg, they said they had no idea when they will be available.
So, sad to say, I’m not going to wait around for this nonsense. I RMAd my R7, and ordered an I7 and Z270. It’ll be here in less than 30 hours. I’m going from an A10-7700, so about 2 1/2 times more performance instead of 3. I think I’ll be happy for another two years.
oops, sorry
They ARE dragging their feet.
AMD provided samples quite often and the mobo makers basically sat on their asses, probably by making z270 boards lol.
Now they are pointing fingers AT AMD for last minute changes, when in fact AMD provided plenty of time?
communication is a 2 way street, AMD wont know if something has gone wrong if the mobo makers keep quiet
i get the feeling that AMD asked them if mobos are good, “everything is fine” they say, while secretly thinking that ryzen is gonna fail so they don’t have to do anything and get free money.
Hi there fellow sufferers.
I wrote to Scan Computers last December about pre-ordering parts for my new Ryzen build but was delayed till the launch on 22/2/2017. I still haven’t got the 1800X CPU and X370 Gigabyte board. While these parts were delayed for self builders like me Scan continued to take new orders for their own brand Ryzen PCs with the same parts they diverted from us to their own expensive PC rigs. So much for sales on a first come basis!
Very disappointing especially after AMD promised plenty of stock available for launch.
Just don’t waste your $$ on kaby lake it’s good for games shit for any productivity when compared to ryzen and once they get the cache issues fixed the walking threads across to.the second ccx fixed and get some bios updates going you can expect another 5-10% gain AMD is know for it Fine Wine tech it’s not implemented well at launch but they age better than any other company’s chips
Same here; pre-ordered cpu immediately on newegg assuming that would be the thing to sell out quick. Then put together the rest of my order around the mobo I wanted. Went to purchase, said mobo out of stock. Ordered all but mobo and went to amazon for mobo which didn’t say it was out of stock yet. MAYBE 30 mins after orders opened up max. Still waiting for it with no ETA.
I back-ordered on Newegg the other day and today it paid off, MSI X370 Titanium went into stock briefly and my order is shipping tomorrow.
Canceled my Amazon order.
Yeah I thought about that but I worry they’ll both ship on the same day and I’ll need to try and sell one or RMA it and eat the cost. Amazon gave me free one-day shipping and a $50 gift card for my trouble so It’d feel wrong cancelling it at this point anyway. Still sad ;(
Highly unlikely they both get stock at same time and ship at same time… What is worth more? $50 gift card and not get your Motherboard until end of April or take a chance on Newegg back order and get it much sooner with no Tax?
Keep both orders and tell Amazon first come first serve, whoever ships first gets your business.
My luck they’d both ship the same day and all the supply issues would be over so I’d have trouble even selling a second one. However, I should make the second order anyway… I just wish they were all more transparent as to where stock is (GPS of a boat I’d even be happy with at this point :/)
EDIT: Newegg is only allowing people to be notified at this point and isn’t taking back orders. Guess I’m stuck waiting on Amazon…
Just got my Newegg, in stock notification for the ASROCK X370 board. Yes it’s a cheap board, but it does have wifi AC on board. Unfortunately, that is the only advantage ASROCK had to offer.
Still waiting on the premiums to offer something in stock.
Still waiting. Just had 4th unfulfilled preorder (B&H this time) Now trying Amazon again since no one else even has dates anymore
if I ratio that up to the number of failed ryzen pre orderes since launch, amazon owes me about $100 in bribe money
It’s March 24th, and still no boards;(((
April 8th, still no x370 motherboards in stock
