The Nintendo Switch has sold more than 1.5 million worldwide

The Nintendo Switch is just about to enter its third week on the market and it seems that so many people are excited about the console (and probably Zelda) that it has gone on to become Nintendo's fastest selling console ever.  We already knew that week one sales in the UK were around the 85,000 unit mark but this week, we got some worldwide figures, showing the Switch selling more than 1.5 million units in its first two weeks.

This is according to numbers provided by the analysts at SuperData (via GamesIndustry), which show that around 500,000 Nintendo Switch units were sold in the US, 360,000 were sold in Japan whilst Europe trails in third place depending on the country. Around 85,000 units were sold in the UK and 110,000 units were sold in France for instance.

If you were wondering how many of these people bought the Switch to play Zelda then you are in luck because we have a percentage for that. According to the stats, 89 percent of Switch owners have bought a copy of Zelda, amounting to around 1.34 million sales when you remove the Wii U from the equation.

Now Nintendo just needs to keep up the momentum by ensuring stores have plenty of stock. Exclusive games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors and Arms should also help encourage sales over the next few months.

KitGuru Says: I'm glad to see the Nintendo Switch doing so well. This early success makes it clear that Nintendo got its messaging right this time around, which is something it struggled with back when the Wii U launched. However, it is still too early to tell how well the console will do long term, so we will have to keep an eye on things over the course of the year. How many of you already went and got a Switch? I've been enjoying mine quite a bit.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.

  1. This isn’t good new for Nintendo. Zelda tends to be only bought by the traditional Nintendo fans, hence why the Wii Zelda sales were ~7 million. If 89% of Switch owners bought Zelda, then it’s an indicator that Nintendo have failed to draw in new customers to the console.

  2. You are more than correct sir. You can trace this back to exactly how the Wii U panned out, ignoring the launch the only boom in sales were when major releases were made. It’s not looking that promising.

  3. I don’t completly agree, i was playing with nintendo consoles back in the gba era, then i just never really played nintendo consoles until now i bought the switch with zelda

  4. Well, there is a 11% of new customers. My money is this being another Wii U – it is doing nothing to draw in new customers, and is just rehashing the same Nintendo IPs while providing a console that is far weaker in terms of performance compared to the competition.

  5. So you’re saying if they won you over, then the Switch is officially a success for years to come?
