EVGA rolls out GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 GPUs with iCX and upgraded RAM

Back when Nvidia first announced the GTX 1080Ti, the company also announced some improvements coming to its older Pascal cards. The GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 were both due to get faster RAM modules and now, add-in board partners are catching up. We've already seen ASUS and MSI release their own GTX 1080 refreshes and now, EVGA has joined the fray with its iCX GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 graphics cards.

The EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 both feature EVGA's revised iCX cooler, which was created to give users more control over the GPU cooler. There are nine additional thermal sensors and multiple MCUs so you can monitor absolutely everything and fine tune your fan speeds and temperature thresholds until they are perfect for your needs. This high level of monitoring could be particularly advantageous to overclockers as it can give them more accurate readings across the PCB.

Aside from iCX, the GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 use Micron's faster 11GHz memory modules with 352GB/s of bandwidth. Nvidia first introduced these faster memory modules back when it announced the GTX 1080Ti and since then, AiBs have been slowly rolling out updated models.

KitGuru Says: If you already have a GTX 1080, then this small upgrade won't matter to you much as the performance increase will be negligible. However, if you held off for cards to get cheaper, then now might be the time to jump with more upgraded models hitting the market.

  1. Wasn’t it also EVGA that said on Thursday that current owners of the 1080 would be able to enjoy the new higher speed memory through a bios update?

  3. you can’t exactly download faster VRAM 😛

  4. No but the original VRAM in the FTW could all hit 11GHz anyway, what Rocky was saying was there are stories going round you could flash your original FTW to 11GHz. Whether this originated on the mythical Interwebz or came from EVGA I haven’t been able to validate.

  6. Ok so reading that it’s not all FTW cards but just FTW2 cards with ICX and its a try it a your own peril as it’s not guaranteed to work on all cards….. but since the cards come with dual bios I can see no harm in giving it a try and EVGA’s warranty is usually fine with overclocking and bios flashes anyway. Summing up overclock your memory to 11GHz if it works leave it at that or flash the bios but I think flashing the bios will probably up the voltage a little which might just make it unstable.

  8. iCX actually comes with the new Micron VRAM which runs at 11Ghz base speed – however, flashing that bios to your older EVGA card will just overclock the VRAM by 10%. On a Classified that’s not exactly a problem, but on an SC card that might make your card unstable, and it will sure run a lot hotter and become more power hungry.

  9. The FTW2 with ICX originally came out in February with Micron memory at 10GHz that will more than likely Overclock to 11GHz, it’s being replaced now with guaranteed 11GHz. You can download the 11GHz bios from EVGA but they do advise that not all of the original FTW ICX will run at 11GHz. They state that in the text.
