Nintendo profits see huge boost as Switch beats sales expectations

This week, Nintendo revealed its quarterly earnings report, showing a huge boost in profit thanks to the Nintendo Switch console launch. In fact, the Switch is selling so well that Nintendo has boosted its sales forecast for the year, expecting to sell another ten million units before the end of March 2018.

Over the last 12 months, Nintendo has boosted its net profit by five times, earning around $4.4 billion in revenue. Of that, its net profit was $925 million, beating the company's forecast by around 14 percent.

Nintendo has stated that the boost in profits was largely down to better than expected sales of the Nintendo Switch, which sold over 2.7 million units in its first month on sale. Nintendo is now expecting to sell an additional ten million Switch consoles before March 31st 2018, which would put the Switch ahead of the Wii U's lifetime sales in its first year.

On top of that, Sales of Zelda: Breath of the Wild helped out quite a bit, with 2.76 million Switch copies being sold and 1.08 million Wii U copies sold. The interesting thing about this is that Zelda on the Switch actually outsold the console, which may partially be down to some countries struggling to stay stocked.
