Samsung is also testing its own self-driving car tech

With Google and Apple now both testing their own self-driving cars on public roads, Samsung is also looking to get in on the action. This week, Samsung managed to gain approval to test its own self-driving car out on public roads.

With Samsung being based in South Korea, it will be testing its new autonomous car tech there on its home turf. According to The Korea Herald, Samsung managed to gain testing approval this week from South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

According to the report, Samsung has fitted out a commercial Hyundai car with sensors and cameras that will operate using deep-learning to improve navigation, weather perception and other factors. The more time the car spends on the road, the smarter it will become and the less need there will be for human intervention.

Around twenty other businesses are also set to begin driverless car testing in South Korea this year, so Samsung won't be the only one.

KitGuru Says: It seems like almost every major tech company wants to get involved with self-driving cars at the moment. By the sounds of it though, Samsung is going to be focussing purely on the software side of things, rather than attempting to build its own car from scratch.
