Update: Samsung has now confirmed plans to push out a software update to fix the Galaxy S8 ‘red tint' display issue that some early adopters are reporting. After the initial issue was reported, a Samsung rep did claim that the tint could be removed within the phone's settings menu but users have had varying levels of success this way.
In an updated statement, a Samsung spokesperson said: “Because there are some complaints about the red-tinted screens, we decided to upgrade the software next week for all Galaxy S8 clients”.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 officially began shipping out worldwide today, so if yours arrives with a reddish tint on the display, try going into the system settings and adjusting the colour balance. If that doesn't work, then hang tight for Samsung's software update, which should arrive soon.
Original Story: The Samsung Galaxy S8 doesn't start shipping in most countries until Friday but some people in South Korea have already managed to get their hands on it and have begun reporting some issues with the display. According to some users, their Galaxy S8 units are suffering from an odd red tint. Fortunately, it looks like Samsung has got ahead of the problem and may already have a fix in mind.
Those who pre-ordered their Galaxy S8 will begin receiving their units any day now. If you happen to receive one with a red tint covering the whole display, then you should be able to fix the issue in the phone's system settings.
As reported by ZDNet, after ‘Galaxy S8 red screen' became one of the highest searched terms in South Korea, a Samsung spokesperson told local media that the red tint isn't a quality issue, but can be fixed by adjusting the system settings.
“The Galaxy S8 was built with an adaptive display that optimizes the color range, saturation, and sharpness depending on the environment. If needed, users can manually adjust the color range of the display to change the appearance of white tones, through ‘Settings > Display > Screen Mode > Color balance'.”
However, some users have reported mixed results using this method, though these claims are unverified.
KitGuru Says: If you have a Galaxy S8 pre-order on the way, then be sure to double check the colour balance in the system settings if you end up with an overly red display. Hopefully this doesn't turn out to be a wider issue.
Probably just some people complaining just to complain because of the note battery problem a while back trying to make Samsung look bad who knows.
