DayZ, the game that arguably kicked off the entire early access survival genre, is finally almost in beta. The standalone version of the Arma 2 mod originally began development over four years ago and has been in alpha ever since.
The beta update hasn't landed just yet, but the change to beta will happen with update 0.63. The majority of the DayZ team is now working on this update, though we don't have a time frame for release just yet.
Before getting to update 0.63 though, Bohemia needs to get through update 0.62, the final alpha update for the game. Unfortunately “only small team is working on 0.62 at the moment”, so it could take a while as most of the team is preparing for beta instead.
We don't know exactly what changes will be introduced with the beta update but after four years in alpha, it's nice to see DayZ finally hit its next milestone. Hopefully the beta stage goes a bit quicker.
KitGuru Says: With development taking so long, I'm not too surprised to see DayZ flooded with negative reviews on Steam. Hopefully the pace will start to pick up a bit once the beta update finally hits.

Lmfao I’ve owned the game since Dec 2013 when it released on Steam. Talk out of your ass some more. You obviously haven’t actually followed the development or else you wouldn’t be so fucking stupid.

At this point it is a joke. To think this is what we get after this long. The game is fun but still heavily broken. I honestly don’t care about graphics if they could just fix the current game. Not moving to a non Arma engine when they had the opportunity is the biggest mistake. Went downhill from there. I still greatly enjoy the random engagements I have that keep me coming back. No one usually shoots at the guy running down the road singing. There is still no denying, overall the ball was dropped.
Are you retarded or something? They’re literally building a new engine for the game. That’s the reason you haven’t seen any bug fixing. It makes no since to fix bugs in legacy code when they’re just going to replace all of that when the new code for the new engine is ready. Obviously you’re full of shit about following development or else you’d know that. Do you even read the Status Reports? The past few have been specifically addressing complaints about slow development time and they’ve explained what they’re doing and why they chose to do it.
They told you from day one and every single time you open the game that its unfinished and will be in development for a while. Games of this scope take years to make, sorry you were too stupid to realize that before you bought it.

You mean Arma 2.5, basically a bullshit hybrid engine. You do realize the core of the have is going nowhere and only a new “rendering” engine is being put on. So most bugs aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. If you think the game will be magically better after they upgrade the rendering engine you are fooling yourself. Oh come to mention it, weren’t we promised this engine last year. Lol. What a joke.

It has a new character controller, new animations, and an entirely new scripting language that will change up core DayZ gameplay. You really don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about AT ALL. Answer me this, if the rendering engine is fully in place why is the game mostly still dx9 and not fully dx11 as the devs claimed it would. Better yet, I’ll go back to my original argument, WHY DID THEY NOT USE A MORE SUITABLE ENGINE OR ACTUALLY MAKE A NEW ENGINE WHEN THEY HAD A CHANCE. Instead they smashed together bits and pieces from both Arma 2 and 3. let’s be completely honest an Arma engine may not be the best choice for what they wanted to accomplish. I have actually read the notes and they stated themselves that it was missing many things they wanted to incorporate.
