KitGuru Poll: What resolution do you currently game at?

Following on from Nvidia's Battlebox 4K gaming system announcement earlier today, we have decided to check in with our readers and find out how many of you are making the jump to 4K.

Has Ultra-HD taken off yet? Or are you sticking to 1080p or QHD for the time being? Let us know in our latest poll, which you can enter by heading over to our Facebook post HERE.

We will be sharing the results with you soon!

KitGuru Says: Personally, I've had an Ultra-HD monitor for a couple of years now. However, I rarely use it for gaming at this pointΒ as I am waiting for 4K/60fps to become more affordable. I imagine that will change in the next year or so though.Β

  1. Aw really wish you guys hadn’t moved all your competitions and polls etc over to Facebook. I’m not interested in sharing my FB info with anyone else.

  2. Totally agree, don’t do Facebook, not interested in Facebook and more and more of my friends are abandoning Facebook.
I do my best to try to encourage discussion on the website but comments might as well be disabled.
The thing that annoys me most is using Facebook to prove you are a real person for competitions… like I couldn’t create 10 fake Facebook accounts in 10 minutes. Arghhhhhhh this topic again lol.

  3. Just got my GTX1080 I’ve pretty much settled on 1440p but haven’t found a monitor or decided on a size or whether I should get GSYNC…. Then there’s the whole 100hz thing. It wasn’t a issue when I had my 290X but now I’ve seen what I was missing I’ve opened a whole can of worms, someone save me.

  4. Actually its much more difficult to create 10 fake facebook accounts than create 10 gmail or yahoo/’name here’ accounts. This has been from years of doing this. We also check every winners Facebook page —- quite thoroughly.

You guys should try it over there, might cheer you all up- you always sound thoroughly pissed off over here in the comments section. Internally we call it ‘whingegus’

  5. Have you tried a high refresh monitor before? some people prefer 120hz or 144hz over 4k, but its hard to beat a high quality IPS 4k panel, even if its currently 60hz – I find it hard using TN screens anymore, regardless of the refresh speed – the colours generally look quite naff.

  6. Can’t argue with you there, in my experience of Disqus it is 50% trolls and 49% ad spammers and only 1% of real actual genuine comments lol
Though I could somewhat cynically point out that the switch to FB is probably more to do with being able to get more money for adverts from having a better idea of your audiences interests etc than it does with any other ‘chat’ platform.
But that’s business and I’d much rather Kitguru continue make money and to flourish (hopefully) and not have me enter competitions πŸ™‚

  7. I did consider 4K but that would really stretch my GTX1080. If I’m brutally honest 60hz is probably about the limit my tired old eyes can register, I’m sure that’s the same for a lot of people but you know, bragging rights and all that, I do now notice dips into the 40s.
I guess my shopping list is a nice IPS panel at 1440p that I can VSYNC somewhere around the 60hz+ (negating the need for GSYNC?). If I move my mouse fast I see after image so is that refresh rate or input speed?
Allan you haven’t done it for a long long time but I think it’s time you did a article, I’m up to date with most hardware but coming from a 3 year old graphics card I’m afraid monitor technology has passed me by. Please help for old times sake lol.

  8. lol I turn 40 soon I’m having a early midlife crisis, moaning is all I have left. Being Bipolar it’s hilarious I go back through my posts and its like a mood diary, I see days of criticizing every single thing and then manic days of 20 posts at 4am in the morning. Through it all though my passion for DH and then Kitguru has always remained.
Hows about this I do solemnly swear to try to cheer up a bit and if you ever need someone to delete those pesky Spam posts just let me know.

  9. Like you, I recently picked up a 1080. For the time being, I’m still playing on my Samsung 1920*1200 60Hz monitor. I’ve had my eye on a sweet Viewsonic 1440p IPS panel at 165Hz w/G-Sync. Approaching $700 is a hard pull to swallow, but it’ll definitely last me a long time.

From what I’ve seen and read, if you’ve got the card to support the frame rate, there’s little reason to buy a non-adaptive sync monitor. Yes, there is the premium that Nvidia charges, but it’s just how that goes. It’s a better tech in my opinion than Freesync, but your thoughts may differ.

If you’ve got the coin, but the best and biggest you can reliably afford and run.

  10. I spent the night researching monitors, it was one of those ‘Oh my god I have 25 open Google windows’ nights, thankfully things are a bit clearer now. To be honest I’m more than happy with a really solid 60hz, it’s a bit late in life for me to turn pro, luckily this means I get to spend a good chunk of money on a seriously nice monitor. I’ll see what’s at Computex but a 1440p curved Samsung Quantum Dot could be nice and surprisingly affordable.

  11. It really depends on the optimization of the game and how your system plays it. Even with my factory OC’d 1080 and my 8350 @ 4.5Ghz, I still get frame dips. In hopeful that i wouldn’t get that with the GPU being more utilized than being somewhat bottlenecked or bogged by my CPU.

I love my Samsung but, sadly, they went Freesync. So if I really want the most from my card, that means I have to look elsewhere.

  12. Actually we don’t monetise Facebook at all, we give some key advertisers facebook cover images from time to time but it makes us no money, apart from bring value to the site (I dont use facebook either myself for personal reasons as im 46 and not really interested in social media – social media to me is a night out at the pub). All the money we make is here on the main site which funds the staff we employ. I just think many many KitGuru readers use Facebook and its easier for everyone to have one single log in to check in on things – like KitGuru.

But its impossible to please everyone, so I just do my best!

  14. Allan I realise this may be against the rules but I’m going to risk it as this is a really good deal. I’m not asking you to recommend that monitor wink wink but would my single MSI GTX1080 Gaming X plus 11gbps be upto the job? I Can’t SLi as my build is case restricted.

  16. Well the other problem is that many companies don’t permit access to Facebook using the company network so prevents them (myself included) from accessing it. I find I have more time for web browsing and forum posting during the day than I do at night these days. But as you say, can’t please everyone.
