Quake Champions open beta kicks off today

It has been almost a year since we got our first look at Quake Champions but all of id Software's work appears to be coming to a head as the game is now ready for the public to get its hands on. There have been a few rounds of closed beta so far this year but today, Quake Champions is getting a ten day open beta.

This is being dubbed as a ‘large scale tech test', with the main goal being to cram as many players onto the servers as possible between today and the 21st of May.

If you want to give Quake Champions a whirl over the next week and a half, you will still need to sign up. You can head over to the Quake Champions website and once you have registered, a beta key will be sent to you instantly. You won't need to sit around waiting to hear whether or not you've been accepted into the beta, Bethesda is opening the flood gates on this one.

Presumably, with the open beta now here, we should be nearing the game's final release. Quake Champions is going to be a free to play ‘hero shooter', with different class-based characters each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses. It's similar to Overwatch, though it will operate under a different business model.

The game does not have a final release date yet. However, E3 is in one month, so we should hear more then.

KitGuru Says: I'm a big fan of ‘shadow drops' so I am hoping that Bethesda launches Quake Champions during its press conference at E3 this year. Are any of you planning on trying out Quake Champions over the weekend? Have any of you tried it already?
