Over the course of 2016, we reviewed quite a few coolers from Deepcool, including its Captain EX 120 and 240 all-in-one liquid coolers. Now in 2017, Deepcool is giving them something of a refresh, adding a new wired controller and RGB lighting.
The original Captain EX 120 and 240 were both reviewed by KitGuru over the course of 2016 and both received awards. In particular, the quiet pump and easy installation were worthy of praise. Now, Deepcool is introducing the Captain 120EX RGB and Captain 240EX RGB.
These refreshed AIOs bring synchronised RGB lighting, using an LED strip, which can be controlled via software by using an RGB header on a motherboard (assuming your board has one). Aside from that, there is also a new wired controller, which can be used to turn the lights on or off, change modes and speed.
We don't have one of these in for review yet, so we can't verify any performance differences at the moment. However, you can read up on our previous Captain EX 120 and 240 coverage to get an idea of what to expect. The new Captain 120EX RGB will be available soon for $99.99 while the 240 version will cost $129.99.
KitGuru Says: It has been quite some time since I've shopped around for an AIO cooler. Are any of you guys currently running a Deepcool AIO in your system? Are you thinking about getting one?
Love the look of this – it really does seem to highlight the CPU as the main event in a windowed rig; in that way, similar to the Kraken, sure, but way ‘cooler’ IMO.
I just hope they release a Captain EX360 – or, that Arctic could strike a deal with Deepcool so that I could get the best of both worlds: a 360 push/pull with the funkiest, steam-punk CPU block currently on the planet!
It would look amazing in my planned Zen/Vega build – and with Vega still a little way off (ahem, yeah, cheers for that, AMD), I’m hopeful of a good outcome to my 360 RGB AIO wishes in the meantime…
