Dead Island 2 is still happening, no new release date yet though

Dead Island 2 has had a turbulent development cycle, the game was originally supposed to release in 2015 but was then delayed to 2016. Shortly after that delay, the studio handling the project was let go by publisher Deep Silver and since then, the game has been floating in limbo. However, despite the lack of news over the last year, Deep Silver still says that Dead Island 2 is on the way.

Right now, Dead Island 2 is supposed to be in the works over at Sumo Digital. That particular announcement came back in early 2016 but since then, news on the project has been quiet. This week though, Deep Silver has finally given a quick status update regarding the game.

In a statement sent over to Eurogamer, a Deep Silver representative said: “Dead Island 2 is in development at Sumo Digital, and we are excited by the progress the team are making with Deep Silver's most successful IP. When we are ready to share more information, we will.”

So there you have it, Dead Island 2 is apparently still happening. Perhaps we will hear something more at E3, though I'm not holding my breath on that one.

KitGuru Says: Chances are, development on Dead Island 2 went back to square one when it was taken on board by Sumo Digital. With that in mind, a 2017 release seems unlikely. Perhaps the game will be ready at some point in 2018, by which time, we'll have all had a nice long break from the Dead Island franchise. Were any of you looking forward to Dead Island 2 back when it was announced?  Are you still excited about the game at all, or has too much time passed with no news?
