Destiny 2 will support 144Hz, 21:9 and wider FOV but will release later than console

Destiny 2 finally had its gameplay unveiling last night and while PC gamers did receive plenty of good news in the form of specific features and changes being made, there was a bit of disappointing news to go along with it. At this time, Destiny 2's September 8th release date only applies to consoles, meaning the PC version will be coming out later.

Speaking with PC Gamer at the event last night, Destiny 2's director Luke Smith said: “We're not committed to a PC date yet, but at Bungie we're totally committed to making a PC build as great as we can. Our partnership with Blizzard and being on Battle.net, we want to make sure that this version of the game has the time it needs to bake in the oven so it's a delicious piece of bread when it comes out.”

While we don't have a solid date on when the PC version should be coming, Bungie wants to nail down a date “in the coming weeks”, so hopefully we hear more at E3 in June.

Outside of that, Bungie has announced a few things about the PC version of the game. For starters, the game will feature an uncapped frame rate, so those with the horsepower will be able to take advantage of their high refresh rate displays. There will be an FOV slider in the game at launch, along with support for 21:9 ultra-wide displays.

One of the big things Bungie is aiming for is ensuring that the minimum and recommended specifications are fair and don't require anyone to own the latest and greatest to get a good experience. However, as Bungie's David Shaw notes to PC Gamer, the minimum and recommended specs won't be announced for a bit longer.

KitGuru Says: From the sounds of it, Bungie are on the right track with the PC version of Destiny 2. Unfortunately, it is probably going to take a bit longer than the console versions. Hopefully the delay won't be too huge but in all, things are looking positive.

  1. “We want to get our hands on Destiny 2 as soon as possible like everybody else, so we offered to share our PC platform with our sister companies for this release.” Lel

  2. ‘Braces himself for the console port backlash’. I’ll probably pick it up for the xbox on launch just to have a bit of a mess around and then trade it in and get the PC version to play with my mates when it releases. I have the first game with all the expansions but only put about 20 hours into it, if I’m honest going underground used to freak me out to much, worse than any horror games I’ve played, bizarre.
