One of the bigger problems people had with Destiny 1 was the story- or rather the way the story was told. Rather than using vanilla Destiny's campaign to tell a well rounded, lore-rich story, Bungie implemented ‘Grimoire cards' to explain Destiny's world outside of the game. They seemingly learned there lesson once The Taken King expansion rolled around and now in Destiny 2, Bungie has confirmed that all lore and story elements will finally be told within the game itself.
The news comes from Steve Cotton, the lead on Destiny 2's world building. Speaking with Erik Kain at Forbes, Cotton pointed out that Grimoire Cards were going to be a thing of the past, with the idea being scrapped in Destiny 2.
“We want to put the lore in the game. We want people to be able to find the lore. All the story is told through the Adventures, it's told through the characters in the world, it's told through the campaign and it's told through scannables you find throughout the world.”
This is good news for Destiny fans as it means this time around, you won't need to head to a website and take yourself out of the game to learn more about the worlds, characters, races and situations you find yourself in. Getting the story right this time around appears to have been a big focus for Bungie.
KitGuru Says: Destiny 1 had a lot of lore and backstory, the only problem is you had to leave the game to look for it. It wasn't an ideal situation so it'll be good to see that changed in the next game.
