We Happy Few set for a joyful update in August

We Happy Few enjoyed a successful Kickstarter campaign back in 2015 and two years on, development is now nearing completion. This week, Compulsion Games has detailed its plan to bring We Happy Few out of Steam Early Access as well as what the future holds for the unique survival horror.

The past few months have seen regular updates for We Happy Few, with Compulsion Games adding several new areas and playstyles. Currently, its story build is separate to the playable Early Access build, but could be merged sooner than expected. In a Steam Community post, The studio outlined what the future holds for We Happy Few in the coming months.

“Originally we were planning to release two updates before the final release of the game: the Joy related update, and an update that would have contained the Parade District (a brand new biome). We have decided to push out only one major update between now and final release. This will be the Joy update, a bit later in the schedule (it will now come out around mid August), to make it bigger and better, and keep the Parade District for the final release.”

The reason for the delay in schedule is said to be that “The Parade District is intertwined so heavily with the story that we don’t think we can deliver a good Early Access version, unlike the other biomes. By moving to only one final major update, we can merge the Early Access and the story builds earlier, so that we can concentrate all of our efforts on making the story the best it can be.”

The Joy Update comes after its last major update, Maidenholm which introduced a number of features including the much requested playstyle modes.

KitGuru Says: The story is the main reason I backed We Happy Few, hoping to see more of the charming yet villainous Uncle Jack. Have you tried We Happy Few? Are you looking forward to its final release?
