Computex has been full of announcements this year, which is partially down to the fact that Intel has launched its new X299 platform and Core-X processors. We have seen new X299 motherboard ranges from Gigabyte and ASUS already and now, we get to take a look at what MSI has to offer.
For starters, most of MSI's different motherboard flavours will be available in X299 form, including the GAMING M7, Gaming Pro Carbon, Tomahawk and SLI PLUS. Each motherboard brings along its own set of new features. The X299 Gaming M7 ACK for instance uses a 10 phase Digital power design with Loadline calibration and MSI's turbo socket for overclocking.
The Gaming M7 also features its own M.2 shield to keep your M.2 drive protected from any hot air that might be pumping through your system. Beyond that, it also comes with its own RGB lighting setup, Audio Boost Pro 4 and Killer E2500 Ethernet connectors.
The Gaming Pro Carbon on the other hand features the same 10 phase power design with Loadline calibration and turbo socket but adds in Titanium Chokes. The X299 Tomahawk is a bit different, focussing on a stainless steel design for the heatsinks and offering front panel USB Type-C connections.
The MSI X299 SLI PLUS is the final board on our list for today, featuring Military Class VI components to make it one of the strongest motherboards MSI has ever built. This board adopts dual Intel LAN which optimises for maximum transfer speeds by reducing CPU overhead and offering high TCP and UDP throughput. It also has 15KV protection, shielding your network from static. In all, this board is built to be stable and reliable.
There are of course some features that carry across the whole range, including USB 3.1 Gen 2 support and the ASMedia ASM3142 3.1 controller. All of these boards carry the Forzr M.2 shield too, while most feature RGB lighting.
At the time of writing, we only have pictures of two motherboards to share with you. However, later this week we are due to visit MSI's booth at Computex, so we will be sure to get some images of the entire range then and update this article with them.
KitGuru Says: There have been a lot of motherboard announcements in the last 24 hours. Are any of you thinking about making the jump to X299 and a Core-X CPU? Has any motherboard so far caught your eye?
