Latest reports claim Nintendo Switch 2 is coming in March 2025

By now, you have probably heard the recent rumours about the release of the Nintendo Switch 2. It has been said that Nintendo will launch the upcoming portable console in Q1 2025, but a more recent report has now given a more specific timeframe, claiming the Switch 2 is coming out in March 2025.

According to sources, the original Switch, first released in March 2017 and has only received an OLED upgrade since then, is about to undergo a significant revamp. It is said that the next system will feature a larger and higher-resolution screen than its predecessor, which had a 6.2-inch display. Moreover, it has been reported that the new portable console will feature the Nvidia Tegra T239 SoC (Ampere). This is expected to significantly boost the device's performance, with up to six times as many CUDA cores as the previous model.

As for the release date, the new Nintendo Switch 2 was previously rumoured to launch sometime in 2024, but now it seems the anticipated release date has been pushed back to Q1 2025. However, Nikkei was more specific, claiming the console would launch in March 2025.

Unlike other gaming consoles that typically aim for a holiday season release, Nintendo appears to be prioritising the launch of a strong first-party game line-up over getting the system out before 2024. This extra time will allow developers to create more titles for launch and the supply chain to prepare for larger quantities at release.

One early candidate for a Switch 2 launch title is the newly announced Pokémon Legends Z-A, which was announced this week with a teaser trailer and a 2025 release window.

KitGuru says: Are you planning on getting the new Switch as soon as it releases? What kind of performance do you expect from it?
