Acer announce 2-in-1 casual gaming laptop, Nitro 5 Spin

When looking at gaming laptops, the first thought goes to high specs and even higher prices. Acer plans to combat that stereotype with a gaming laptop designed for the casual gamer, launching the Acer Nitro 5 Spin as an entry-level addition to its Nitro lineup.

The Nitro 5 Spin will be available in North America and Europe at a price of $999, attempting to balance affordability with the performance it needs to run the latest of games. It features a 15.6” HD display, powered by the latest in Intel’s 8th generation i7 processors, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 GPU and storage options including a PCIe SSD up to 512GB.

The laptop is shipped with support for Windows 10 Hello, including a fingerprint reader and will last up to 10 hours on a full charge. The Nitro 5 Spin lives up to its name as a bend-back convertible, which is a unique selling point for a gaming entry.

While it is not the most powerful laptop on the market, Acer assures that it can run competitive games like Dota 2 and Overwatch smoothly, although it is uncertain at what settings until hands-on tests are available this Autumn.

KitGuru Says: Considering gaming laptops come in at a huge premium price for portability, this seems like a solid entry for those concerned about their bank accounts. I, for one, have wanted the ability to game on the go for while given how much I travel, making this option all the more tempting. Do you game on a laptop?  What do you think of the Acer Nitro 5 Spin?
