SNES Mini to launch in September with previously unreleased Starfox 2 and more

After Nintendo discontinued its popular NES Mini, speculation began that it would be to make room for the upcoming SNES Mini. Now officially confirmed, the SNES Mini will launch in September with 21 games pre-loaded onto the system.

Officially titled the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the console will come with European and North American design variants, boxed with two controllers but will require an AC adaptor for its USB plug and a HDMI lead. Classic titles such as Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Donkey Kong Country appear in the list of pre-loaded games, but the most notable of them all is Starfox 2, which has never before been released. To gain access to Starfox 2, players will need to complete the first level of the original Starfox game.

The full list of pre-loaded games is as follows:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby's Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi's Island

The staggering sales of the NES Mini left Nintendo struggling to keep up with demand. Hopefully, with the company having acknowledged this, it will be more prepared with the SNES Mini. The console ships on the 29th of September for $79.99 in the US and £79.99 in the UK.

KitGuru Says: Nintendo is known for shortages in stock so if you’re interested, grab one as soon as you can to avoid scalper pricings. Are you planning on picking up a SNES Mini?
