As with every new Nintendo console, fans eagerly wait for the announcement of a new Metroid game. While they will have to wait a little longer, the next best thing is headed to the Nintendo Switch with Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition.
The special edition brings the critically acclaimed game back to PS4, PS Vita and Wii U as well as being a brand new entry on the Switch. It provides no new in-game content but comes with a few physical and behind the scenes goodies. The trailer shows a documentary, an art book with developer commentary, a double sided poster and ominous box art, all playing off of the dark stylings of the game. The documentary explores the five-year journey that solo developer Thomas Happ took to make the game alongside a full time job, borrowing experience from his other works, such as the Tiger Woods PGA Tour series and Metroid fan-game Orn.
The physical version of Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition will hit shelves in August, priced at £24.99/€29.99/$29.99 for the PS4, Vita and Wii U. The Switch version will be more expensive at €39.99, previously citing the cost to produce cartridges as the reason for price mark-ups on Switch games. In an attempt to remedy this higher cost, the Nintendo Switch version also gets bundled with a Soundtrack CD, only available alongside other versions as a pre-order bonus.
KitGuru Says: While many will pick up Axiom Verge to show Nintendo there is a market for a new Metroid game, the title is a great standalone game. Which version of Axiom Verge will you be picking up?
